Ice Masters

Ever since I created a fire-based team (The Hotheads, back in 2013), I've wanted to create an ice-based equivalent. It took me a while, but I finally got around to it.  I think one of the appeals of characters with ice related powers is that, for kids, it's fun to play act as them during the winter months.  I know I used to!

  1. Nice cover for a summer day.

If one of them was dropped in the ocean and they couldn't swim would they be able to save themselves?

Considering how rich some of them might be, their HQ could be a snow bank.

(i'm not a robot but I am battery driven.)

  3. BTW, does Fred Flintstone's refrigerator have a shellder (a pokemon that can level up to ice moves though it's a pure water type) inside it? XD!

  4. Ah, as you teased the other day! The obvious pun is also the most accurate: Cool cover!

It's interesting to see Queen Elsa, as I'm coming up on halfway through watching ABC's Once Upon a Time on Netflix, and season 4 is a tie-in of sorts with Frozen. It's the series' weakest offering so far, but still interesting enough. (It would be bizarrely surrealistic if you did a cover where Mars Attacks Storybrooke!)

Is there a version of Killer Frost, other than the CW's, who is on the good guys' side? I'd think that, in her place, you might've included the Winter Warlock (from Rankin-Bass' Santa Claus is Comin' to Town). Or George's suggestion of the Snow Miser (since Heat Miser is part of the Hotheads). Or Polar Boy. Maybe if this group ever gets to return, one of them could be part of it.

I still favor the idea of bringing back the Hotheads (perhaps minus Heat Miser and Hot Stuff) having lost their powers, and feeling very put out about it.

Hm... I wonder if we could get a team with intangibility as a theme? Shadowdcat, Phantom Girl, Ghost... and... filling the group out would be the challenge.

  5. @Bob Greenwade: Maybe also Winterbolt (Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July).

  6. This is SO COOL! :-)

    "Nuff said."

  7. PS: If I have my numbers right, #2980 will be another team cover (the third after this one) and will fall on May 11 (my 59th birthday). That would be the perfect time for the Klutz Commandos*!

(*Led by Captain Klutz, with any combination of the Tick, Awkwardman, Inspector Gadget, Hong Kong Phooey, Joxer the Mighty, Frog-Man, and maybe even Speed Bump!)

  8. Bob - from recent comics it looks like KF reformed and is running with the Justice League these days.

  10. Polar Boy would have fit in well with this group.

  11. What's this? You left out John "Icestar" Grayson and his sister Christine (aka "Icicle") from the League of Champions?! That's cold, Ross. Just plain cold!

  12. BG, would Deadman and Flash (phasing thru) qualify for the team?

  13. Let me re-edit this:
It's impossible not to get excited about the original teams of heroes created on this blog. We want more and more!

Cover #2889 'Batman and the Vulture (The Movie)', from yesterday, brought me to another great memory Michael Keaton's role as 'Birdman', 2014 film, Oscar winner.
In 2013, we had cover #531 'Operation: Hawk!', bringing heroes who use 'hawk' in their names.

I would love to see a feathery group, made up of Angel, Falcon, Nighthawk, Hawkman, Black Condor, Dawnstar, Blue Jay, Northwind, Zauriel, Firehawk, Birdman [Hanna-Barbera]. Perhaps without those who are already participating in 'Operation: Hawk!'...

  14. I always get a kick out of your theme teams. This one is real n...ice (but I second the call for Polar Boy - just for his fur hat alone.)
You've done "hot" and "cold". Maybe next time you should split the difference and have a lukewarm team...Luke Skywalker, Luke Cage, Lucky Luke...

  15. hey Ross what about these intangibles....
    Space Ghost....
    Invisible Kid from the Legion...
The Vision, either golden age or modern....
    Viv Vision.....
    Space Phantom.....
    Red Ghost and his monkeys...
...another super cool cover, Ross, but you are missing the Icicles(father and son)....

  16. @Martin: Deadman is a ghost, and the Flash is a speedster. For both, passing through things is a secondary effect.

@jack-el: Space Ghost and the Vision for the Intangible team. Other than Invisible Kid (I don't recall any version as ever going intangible), I'm not familiar with the others.

  17. Kitty Pryde and Casper for the intangible team, plus Dr. Strange's astral form.

    Continuing with the elemental teams:

The Electric Company: Livewire, Black Lightning, Lightning from Big Trouble in Little China, Electro, Storm, Thor...

The Mineral Militia: Geo-Force, Avalanche, that solid stone Green Lantern, the Living Monolith, that Stone Man from Saturn who was in Planet Hulk, the Thing, the Grey Gargoyle, Diamondhead, Crystar the Crystal Warrior

  18. Space Ghost and the Invisible Kid turn invisible not intangible. Green Lantern has turned intangible.

What would their battle cry be - Just get thru it already! ?

  19. Subzero from "Mortal Kombat" would be a perfect introductory enemy for this group. ;-)

  20. Speaking of super-groups...

How about a cover-sim where Deadpool, Ambush Bug, or even Forbush Man is trying to audition for membership in a group composed of Prince Namor, Mr. Spock, Frodo Baggins, and Cutter from ELFQUEST.

Ross could entitle it..."Earmarks Of A Hero!"

  21. Since the list of teams keeps growing ... how about the real 'Children of the Atom'?
Solar Man of the Atom, Captain Atom, Firestorm, Dr. Manhattan, Wildfire from Legion of Super-heroes, Wonder Man, especially with Kurt Busiek's aparence like in #2031.
    Guest: Radioactive Man.

  22. The one from Springfield; or his Chinese namesake?

  23. P.S.---I only ask because every I press your link, I keep getting a pesky little gray T-rex!

  24. @Anonymous Matt Groening's one, directly from The Simpsons. This one, by the way, has already met Chen Lu in #2506.
I did not mention the villain because I would include him in the gallery that the 'Children of the Atom' could face: Radioactive Man, Molecule Man, Nuke and Duke Nukem (Captain Planet).
If I put them all in the previous post, Ross could hate me for good. lol
Question: the links in my post are not working?

  25. @BP: must've been a glitch on my end. Your link is working fine, today. Thanks for forming it!
