Mega City One's top law enforcement officer forced to become a glorified dog catcher? I can't imagine Dredd would be too happy about that situation. An angry Judge Dredd makes for a good story though, so I think this would be a fun read.
This is only the first part of a two-part adventure - so make sure that you stop by tomorrow for the thrilling conclusion!
I do like the way your mind works Ross.
ReplyDeleteHow about Dredd vs MR. MXYZPTLK? No soap opera still needed.
Ross, I bow to your encyclopedic knowledge of Comicdom. I just assumed the Pets were one of your created teams till I googled them. Have they ever faced off against the Legion of Super Pets, Krypto et al?
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose tomorrow's cover will have Judge Dredd's funeral due to being crap-bombed to death?
ReplyDelete;-)
@Cary: You can't be serious!
ReplyDeleteWhat would he call it..."S---ting in Judgement?"
@Cary and Anonymous; you guys are a good comedy team.
ReplyDeleteLockjaw saddens me a bit, I really liked the story where he was supposedly revealed to be human only to have it be a prank played on the Thing.
How about Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew, and the Pet Avengers; also Drooly (Krypto the Superdog) and Droolia (Pooch Cafe).
ReplyDeleteDave brought out an idea that I've proposed a couple of times: The Pet Avengers and the Legion of Super-Pets. If that's not up tomorrow, then I'd like to see it some time soon.
ReplyDeleteThis pairing is another of those "left-field" team-ups that I (and a couple of others) were praising the other day, with Brother Voodoo and Plastic Man. It's a real kick! It's even better that pairing him with Ambush Bug (yes, let's try that some time).
@Everyone: Seeing Lockheed here reminds me of a question I've been trying to pursue. I've been trying to think of characters -- regardless of medium -- who have small dragon (or dragon-like) companions. Kitty Pryde is the first to come to mind, of course; then there are numerous characters in the Dragonriders of Pern books, and Sgt. Vimes in Terry Pratchett's Guards! Guards! (a production of the theatre adaptation just closed locally). Are there any others? (Ideally middle-aged male characters, whose dragons can breathe fire, though anything's good.)
Chance Falconer, from Image comics' "Leave it to Chance", had a pet tiny dragon.
DeleteGreat cover! I have to ask... what is the deal with Lockjaw? He is with the Inhumans, and has power like the Inhumans. But the mists that give the Inhumans their abilities should only work on the Inhumans, so how did it work on Lockjaw? Is he really a deformed Inhuman, like MarchHareSupreme who wrote above mentioned as a joke that had been done to the Thing? The only way I can think that he would be a normal dog that had been transformed was if Mad Maximus had experimented on the dog, giving it some Inhuman genes and then submitting poor Lockjaw to the Terrigen Mists just to see what happened.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know the real story?

In comics, also Chase Falconer (who's appeared in STF a time or two, although not recently...).
Not a dragon, but Isaac Vainio from the "Magic Ex Libris" novels by Jim C. Hines had a pet fire-spider. Isaac was a libriomancer, a wizard who can reach into a book and pull out any object from the story (providing it's small enough to fit through the page).
ReplyDelete@MHS: I'd rather see Krypto and Chazz's wife Carmen in "Romeo & Drooliette."
ReplyDelete:-)
Oh, yeah... Skeeve, from Robert Asprin's Myth Adventures novels, had a baby dragon named Gleep.
ReplyDeleteI did think of Gleep, but I'm looking for a critter that could perch on a guy's (or gal's) shoulder.
ReplyDeleteChance Falconer's pet dragon, St. George, probably would do, at least on general principles.
@Anonymous ; just did a fast Google and a writer confirmed that Lockjaw is indeed a dog though his total origin seems to be as yet unknown.
