Superman and The Defenders

Rumors are swirling about Namor's introduction into the MCU.  The latest speculation has him being introduced as a child in The Eternals, and then as an adult in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. It will be interesting to see how the underwater kingdoms of Lemuria and Atlantis are depicted after James Wan's Aquaman.  Once Namor is established, bring on The Silver Surfer and lets get a big screen Defenders underway!

  1. Even though Superman would clobber the Defenders with some though not extreme effort, this would still be a great read.

  2. I think casting the title role would be relatively simple. Sign up the guy who played Arthur Curry on SMALLVILLE. Dye his hair black; stick on some STAR TREK-surplus Vulcan ears; and voila!

    "Namor" need be said. :-)

  4. I just pictured Dwayne Johnson as Namor. I am not quite sure it could work. Thoughts?
Oh, and Carycomic, the guy who played Aquaman was Alan Ritchson. He also played Raphael in the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie & the sequel. He also plays Hawk / Hank Hall in the current live action Titans show.

  5. Ok, Ross, I just had a bit thought. They just had the whole CW Crisis on Infinite Earths. What if you did your own series of titles for Crisis on Infinite Earths, including characters from all over, like the Teenage Mutant Turtles, Marvel, the Mask, Magnus: Robot Fighter, Hellboy, Doctor Who, Hercules & Xena, Ash Williams, Harry Potter, Mad Max, Buzz Lightyear, Captain Carrot, Flash Gordon, Doc Savage, Ghostbusters, Gargoyles, Stranger Things, the Neverending Story, Transformers, Gen 13, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek, Star Wars & so on.
You could easily do this series for a week or more. But now that I say that I realize that might not be such an easy thing after all. Oh, well, I can hope. Hope I didn't make you roll your eyes too much by this request.

  6. isn't that kind of the basis for Ross' series - the post Crisis World where everyone can now exist at the same time? Since the first Crisis happened in 1985 and Earths originally merged, that's what is being done here.

Ross, I looked. Couldn't find him. Have you used Mr Miracle? He'd be interesting in the Defenders or Avengers.

  7. Of all the theories I've heard about where Namor will be introduced, the one I really prefer would be Black Panther II. There already was a tease for a connection with Wakanda during Avengers: Endgame, so it seems reasonable.

As for who to play him, well, for some time now Kevin Feige's been trying to find a good role for Keanu Reeves. I think that's one actor who would both look the part, and carry it well. (At least, as long as he can resist the urge to say, "Whoa.")

For what Anon@10:44 suggests, I'd support something like this if it was done as the build-up to #3000. Something that big (especially on what amounts to a one-man show) would require a lot of planning, and a number like #3000 would deserve such an event. It would also allow for cool characters who might not otherwise appear here, such as Access, Madame Web, Harbinger, the Beyonder, Jenny Everywhere, etc.

  8. Mister Miracle has appeared 17 times, label is under Mister not Mr.

That Crisis idea seems kind of redundant since that's the kind of thing I do on a daily basis...

#3000 is already decided upon. 2 Teams that have never met, plus lots of extra features - but lets get to 2900 first!

  9. @Anon844: I think MarchHareSupreme meant what they said, though perhaps a couple of extra commas would help: "with some, though not extreme, effort".

Either way, I'm not so sure. Doctor Strange is there, and you'll remember Supes is vulnerable to magic.

  10. @det_Tobor: Plus, the canonical-to-Ross basis for Earth-STF is that it's a side-effect of some kind of (implied) prank war, between Mr. Mxyzptlk and the Impossible Man, in THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD: THE LOST ISSUES #254.

  11. P.S. @ Daviticus: there's no "perhaps" about it. ;-D

  12. @Daviticus: unless, of course, he is magically compelled by whoever's giving him that mystical migraine to use that Krytponian martial art (klukor, iirc) to redirect the Hulk's momentum. Thereby using him as both shield and baseball bat against Subby and the Doc!

Really? You all think Supes is gonna be concerned about green & wide? Bats told him all he needed to keep Hulk in line. If Batman could do it, Superman don't even have to think about it.

How's that possible? Mr. Mxyzptlk is magicial but I-Man isn't.

Subby would mean NOTHING to the Blue Cheese. Send Hulk somewhere that it would take him a while to travel back. The Doc might maybe need some effort UNLESS Supes could keep him off balance and not able to concentrate the spells.

  14. Bless you guys for looking for some kind of overall continuity with these covers, even I wouldn't attempt that!

Here's the theme of this blog:

What if the Bronze Age series Super-Team Family ran forever, and DC had access to any character from anywhere to use in it?

Hence the DC logo even when no DC character appears. I try not to make it more complicated in my mind than that, and it provides endless possibilities.

  15. @Cary & det_Tobor: Let's just say Supes should be reasonably concerned about old Jade Jaws. As this is clearly a case of irresistible force about to collide with an obstacle not-quite-so-immovable-at-this-moment-as-he-usually-is. As for Batman showing Supes "how to do it?" If you're talking about pressure points, like in that DC Treasury crossover co-starring the Shaper and the Joker, then I gotta tell you...Batman did NOT do it!

Also, it's been shown that Impy can duplicate the powers of any super-being he turns into (i.e., he had eye beams when he briefly ran amok at Marvel as a verdant copy of Cyclops). So turning into a green-skinned version of Mxyzptlk might give him a proportionate magic-power boost.

    "Nuff said."

  16. @Anon1052: On the other hand...maybe the Hulk's crashing into him would help shake off that disorientation and allow him to put the kibosh on all three Defenders, at once, with a small blast of super-breath.

    Even more nuff said.

  17. P.S.---Superman, that is. Not Mxy!

  18. @anon 10:52 That was Fishing that said that. & I couldn't agree more with you about Mr Wayne's limited abilities. THAT TREASURY STORY WAS DUMB plain & simple. Hitting Hulk should be like hitting Superman - no super strength or invulnerability = smashed hand.

Impossible Man is like the super-adaptoid? Did not know that.

    Ross, meet choir.

MISTER Miracle it is then. Thank you.

For Superman,as long as he's under the cube's "spell", does not hold back. Dr Strange, inside a magicial force field, gets put into a terrific spin to keep him disoriented. Subby & Hulk are hit with super intense heat vision in their brains.
Superman wouldn't need long for this.

Anonymous 10:52, Bats retaught Supes to think in a fight. Get behind bulky, pick him up and throw him into space. Nothing to stop the momentum, no Hulk.

If what you say is true about the imp, then turning intro a "composite superman" of The Myx, super Adaptoid and Amazo might end the game real fast.

And Subby still means nothing to the blue cheese.

A method that would have solved the 'Doomsday' situation, before that led to "The Death of Superman", too... But he didn't think of it there...

  21. @Simreeve and Fisher: Plus, Doomsday, being a sort of Kryptonian Hulk, would doubtless have instantly broken out of the initial bear hug just prior to "lift-off."

@No need to thank us, Ross. Your power of verisimiltude has more than earned you your loyal fanbase.

Cary Supes grabs Doomsday's arm. Super speed in a spin and throw into space. Bearhug not needed.

  23. @Fisher: Ehhhhhhhhhh, maybe. But, I (still mostly) doubt it.

  24. Doomsday adapts with each death. If he's tossed into space/ black hole and there's nothing there how would he adapt?

  25. He could exit through a white hole and become a male version of Binary.

  26. or become a version of Barney. 🐼

  27. Superman (in his right mind) vs. mind-controlled Defenders.

Makes Subby weak as a kitten using heat vision to induce minor dehydration.

Literally freezes Doc and Hulk in their tracks using ice-cold super breath.

    Case permanently closed.
