Captain Canuck and Uncle Sam

I'm always happy when I get to use a Murphy Anderson image on this blog.  Whether he was on full art chores, or inks only, Anderson's work always stood out to me, even as a kid.  He could elevate anyone's pencils, maintaining the integrity of their art while adding his own polished touch, resulting in a gorgeous final product.

  2. Ah, a fellow fan of Swanderson (Curt Swan and Murphy Anderson)? As a kid, those two were like John Byrne and Terry Austin of their day for me.

  3. With the story, I would've expected Captain Canuck to team with Captain America; then I saw the point of the blog entry, and this choice made perfect sense. Yes indeed, these are some pretty nice ink strokes there, particularly on Sam's vest and coat -- bunched-up cloth is hard to draw convincingly (or so I understand), and that's some nice work there.

I went to see if Captain Canuck has met Captain America, and found that his only other appearance here was with The Guardian. Could a three-way happen with Captain Canuck, Captain America, and Captain Britain? (Hero Games also briefly had a Captain Australia who could join them, except that I can't find any online images of her.)

  4. Bob, great idea for a team. The Captains! What about adding Captains Marvel (BOTH) Universe, Atom, Comet...
Ross, glad to see Murphy Anderson getting name-checked. I also loved his work. If I recall correctly, he worked on the Atomic Knights and other Strange Adventures stories. Also some great early JLA covers come to mind.

  5. Yeah, Captain Canuck finally returns to this blog! It would be great to see him team-up with the likes of Agent Fury, Spy Smasher, Wildcat, or Nemesis in the future.

  6. Don't forget Scrooge McDuck also had a successful time in Canada in his youth.

  7. Only half a dozen comments? That's the second-lowest amount (after STF #2819) any of Ross' cover-sims has received this year!

  8. The year is still young, Cary. ;-)

  9. P.S. @ Ross: how about Capt. Canuck meets Starfox?

They could fight over how their outfits were supposed to be designer one-and-only's.

  10. Starfox vs. Star Fox would be more appropriate.

  11. Great cover and Uncle Sam needs to team up with a Mexican superhero to protect that border.

  12. How about that young tejano who briefly assumed Lazarus Lane's old alias?

  13. Captain Canuck and the Vindicator is the most obvious choice (also a nod to the person who mentioned John Byrn above)
Another obvious pairing is Captain America and The Shield. I could see Bucky getting confused.

Speaking of Bucky, how about a Junior JSA with all the Golden Age sidekicks lead by Robin and Captain Marvel Jr? It would include torchy of course. Could fight the Newsboy Legion or have a Golden Age Marvel version of the All Boy Winners or somesuch. Would make a great "Crisis on Earth-m" crossover between Earth-2 and Earth-616.
