G.I. Robot and Dynomutt

I remember seeing Dynomutt and The Blue Falcon appearing as guest stars on Scooby-Doo or as two of the contestants on Laff-A-Lympics, and getting a real kick out of them.  these appearances were just teases, though - I always wished that they would have gotten a series of their own.  A robotic superhero dog, with his human sidekick?  I would have tuned in every Saturday!

  1. They did. And I enjoyed the comic book too.

  2. Their show was actually really fun, and I think it's all on DVD. I know it's on the Boomerang service (thought I think I'm one of 4 people still subscribed).

I wish they had turned up in Future Quest; the DC crossover with them was a little too "OMG gory & edgy" for my tastes.

    1. Future Quest focused more on characters from the 60s era of HB animation

  3. @Mela: Is Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs still in the works? If so maybe Pebbles could develop a crush on a boy that's hunting dragons and prehistoric beasts (mammoths?) that have powers that makes them good working parts for appliances like ovens, REFRIGERATORS, etc. AND try to woo him by dressing in a high-waisted tank top, shorts, and suspenders as a homage to a similar-looking regular character from early episode of a hit anime that prominently featured similarly-able animals. XD!

  4. If memory serves, their adventures did get separated from those of Mystery, Inc. in post-Saturday syndication. My favorite of their foes was the turban-wearing "psychic" with the harem girl sidekicks. Holy Nostalgia, Batman!

  5. It started as the The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour, a 60-minute show produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1976 for ABC Saturday mornings.

The original 1976 broadcast version had only 1 opening and closing credits sequence per episode. The separate syndicated versions of The Scooby-Doo Show and Dynomutt, Dog Wonder don't. Some of the original Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour bridging sequences from 1976 (the opening to the Dynomutt segment and the original end credits, both featuring Scooby-Doo) were used periodically when Dynomutt, Dog Wonder aired as part of the USA Cartoon Express from spring 1984 to summer 1992 (the 1978 syndicated titles were shown as well).

  8. I think he's pulling your collective legs.

Based on his age alone & being as big a Marvel buff as he is, he would've had to been aware of the 70s Hanna Barbara comic book line that Marvel put out at the time based on cartoons such as Laff-A-Lympics & Dynomutt.

They had both Blue Falcon & Dynomutt on their "film roll call banner" on the left side of all of their books plus the famous television box around the issue's number.

I seem to recall Ross using some of their tv comic book images for his covers in the past.

  9. And for more crossover fun, Dyno-Mutt and Blue Falcon were in an episode of Dexter's Lab, and Blue Falcon once teamed up with Don Knotts and Weird Al Yankovic to help Johnny Bravo :D

  11. When Inspector Gadget debuted later on and was a hit, I took a look at it and immediately said, Pffft, those are Dynomutt's powers.

  12. Good point C.C. Ross how old were you in the 1970s? You've shown us pictures of yourself with gifts from your family so what is your age?

  13. I'm 50. Yes I know about the various Dynomutt appearances, but I forgot they had their own episodes.

  14. So you were about 6 or 7 when it first aired? Forgetting something from that long ago is ok. You weren't even around when Spidy, the FF and the Marvel Superheroes were first in tv cartoons.

  15. But. I'm 60...and I proudly and shamelessly remember them! :-)
