Parasite Vs. Absorbing Man

I wonder how a battle between these two villains would go down.  Both have the ability to gain the physical properties of their opponents through contact.  Would they cancel each other out or would one be able to overpower the other?  The Parasite usually leaves his victims drained, while Absorbing Man does not, there my be a slight edge there.  Then again, Absorbing Man can get in longer range attacks through the use of his trusty wrecking ball.  It would be a good fight!

  1. A full course meal or just a snack when ever you want? This is the question. Throw in Amazo for dessert and you have one heck of a long drawn out story.

What would they do with a super energy alien without a physical body?
If someone had cancer throughout their body would these two absorb that as well?

  3. What happened to the Parasite? He looks very different to when I last saw him in the 80s.

  4. Well, if the Parasite was amped up on Superman's powers, at the time, I'd have to give the edge to Absorbing Man. Especially, if he grabbed a chunk of green kryptonite!

  5. I see Parasite taking this bout. Absorbing Man's powerful and brutal but he has no real defense against an energy draining opponent in the long run.

  6. Does Creel's powers absorb his opponents' properties these days? The last I knew, he only absorbed the properties of inert matter such as steel, concrete, or wood, but it's been a while since I've seen him in the comics.

Either way, I think I would've put Parasite against Rogue for this question; their absorbing powers are similar enough to be essentially identical. As a writer, I'd have any direct physical contact between the two set off a discharge of energy, with the energy increasing the longer the contact lasts.

As for this fight, I think I'd give Parasite the initial edge; once he makes even a brushing contact with Absorbing Man, he'd have the latter's ability to mimic inert substances; plus, as you say, Creel would be somewhat drained. Creel would be back for a rematch, though, and use both his wrecking ball and his matter-mimicry power to better effect.

  7. Team-ups for the new Ms. Marvel? Any or all of Young Justice, or trying to recruit Damian (Robin) Wayne for the Champions.

  8. Bob is right. Creel only absorbs the physical properties of whatever inanimate matter he touches.* Whereas, Rudy Jones (nee Jensen) could theoretically absorb even Creel's power of "ultimate" absorption.

*Which is why it would suck to be him if he fell in the water while battling the likes of Aquaman or Namor!

  9. I wonder which of them would pulverize the Grey Gargoyle, first, if he ever made the mistake of trying to petrify either one of them? LOL!

  10. P.S.---seriously, though: has John Carter of Mars ever gone up against Darth Vader, on this website?

  11. Oooo... Re-reading my above comment on Parasite vs. Rogue, it occurred to me that, rather than an energy discharge, them touching each other would result in a body-swap! Now we need this on the blog.

@Jay: I was just pondering the other day who'd be an interesting team-up for Ms. Marvel (that we haven't already seen). Impulse would be fun. Starfire would make for an interesting clash of social values. Or how about Jimmy Olsen, in his Elastic Lad guise?

  12. Creel's powers were granted magically, though: Does the Parasite's ability actually work on powers of supernatural origins?

  15. Yeah, Rogue and Parasite met back then, but on that occasion she had the drop in him while he was busy with Superman. I'm still in favor of the above-described body-swap situation.

  16. @Simreeve: Probably not without being reduced to some kind of crystalline mass (a la the plot by Dr. Doom way back in SUPERMAN/SPIDER-MAN 2).
