The X-Men and Amanda Waller

I am very interested in what James Gunn will be doing with The Suicide Squad.  As some actors and characters will be returning from the first cinematic outing, it can't really be seen as a reboot, even though it is said that he will be going in his own direction.  One aspect that I really hope he addresses is the depiction of Amanda Waller.  She is a tough as nails character, willing to go to extreme ends to achieve her goals - but the first film went even further and made her into a cold blooded killer, which did not sit well with me.  Hopefully, Gunn will find some way to fix that.

  1. I also did not like the Suicide Squad bringing special forces with them. It makes no sense if you are going to use a bunch of criminals to bring guys who would be obviously if not special forces group of military mercenaries.

They should have had Will Smith play the Bronze Tiger not because he is black but because the Bronze Tiger was 2nd in command before Katana.

The attacking of a building seems to be wait to make sets cheaper.

I loved how the advertising was done and liked they had a lot of members but it was so wrong in plot line.

  2. Now you've done it Ross!
You answered the questionfrom days ago. The Wall plays straight woman for The IMPROBABLES!
They have all that power and she has all that frustration for not being able to even come close in controlling them. Beautiful.

  3. Kudos toDC50 for putting Waller into the Improbable mix. She'd bring the whip down on them guys ....But who would break who?

  4. There could be a team: Waller, Wall-E, and Where's Wally (Waldo in the American translation)

  5. Actually, I thought the movie perfectly captured the extreme expediency she demonstrated during the "Janus Imperative" story arc in the pre-COIE comic!

  6. @ MarchHareSupreme

After they put Amanda in a speedo and riding a skateboard, I could see her crying like a little girl to show how "powerless" she was and affecting BatMite to her side..Maybe Fairy Godmother too. After all, he was affected by the original Batwoman so he might be the soft spot in the group.

  7. I found the Suicide Squad film to be convoluted, but not horrible. Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn was a delight, of course, and I also liked Will Smith's Deadshot, Jay Hernandez' El Diablo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's Killer Croc. I see where Idris Elba, originally set to replace Will as Deadshot, has instead been cast as another character (yet to be identified). With Margot coming back, I almost would be interested in seeing the sequel on the big screen; Adewale would seal that deal.

As for today's cover, I can see the subplot in this story being how Professor X wrests control of the school back from the Wall, using not his psychic powers (other than maybe a little mind-reading) but rather his government connections. I'd also predict several panels showing Nightcrawler and/or Colossus restraining Wolverine from sticking a claw into Waller's gut.

@DC50 & MHS: I commented on the IMProbables issue that the Fairy Godmother would try to lead the team, and go about taking periodic anti-anxiety medications. Amanda Waller... even more so.

Yeesh... Now I've been imagining a team-up of Batman with Bamf...!

(Though a special cover of the IMProbables versus the Joker's Wild would be quite interesting!)

  8. How about Evil Ernie vs. Deadpool and/or Fairchild?

    Or Deadpool vs. Judge Dredd?

Or Judge Dredd vs. Death's Head (Marvel UK)?

  9. I'd prefer Dr. Eclipse (Eclipse Comics) vs. Dr. Eclipse (Valiant Comics).

  10. I don't know how my post above (the one ending with IMProbables vs. Joker's Wild) was posted as Anonymous. I very definitely posted it to be like this one, with my name and link. :/

Blame it on your Fairy Godmother (comment.)

  12. Or, more likely, one of those X-factors that even the Mad Thinker can never anticipate (according to Reed Richards).

  13. P.S.---How about the Capt. Marvel Family (from STF #1610) vs. one of the Robo Forces in an effort to keep their token android from "splitting" from their ranks?

  14. Putting two of my teams together means finding 12-14 separate images that all work together. Almost impossible not to mention there's only so much space on one cover.

  15. Or having two main characters pictured on the cover, with head shots of the rest down each side like in the old JLA team ups

  16. How about 'Thor, Frog of Thunder'(from Simonson's wonderful run) versus Frogzilla (a 'Zoo Crew' villain)?

    ^_^

  17. @Ross: OK, then. Just Capt. Marvel-droid and one of the Robo Forces.

  18. I just had a thought, about trying to fit Amanda Waller with a character who isn't Marvel (or DC). Then I remembered someone fitting that description who actually works for a government agency: Hellboy. If Waller were to commandeer the BPRD... well, things could get really interesting.
