Captain Marvel and Thor (Vs. Ulik & King Kull!)

Probably the biggest surprise Marvel announcement at Comicon was that Natalie Portman will be returning as Jane Foster in Thor:  Love and Thunder - and will even possess the Power of Thor in that film, reflecting some of the recent comics.  I enjoyed what director Taika Waititi did with Thor: Ragnarok (except for unceremoniously killing off the Warriors Three), so I look forward to seeing what the next chapter holds.  I really was hoping for Beta Ray Bill, though!

Thor and Captain Marvel have met in the past on the blog.  The Marvel Family got a boost from the God of Thunder in STF #1958...  Thor and Captain Marvel  clashed in STF #990 and they first crossed paths in STF #120... Thor and The Avengers met the whole Marvel Family in STF #1518...

  1. I don't know ANY body that is excited for Natalie Portman's return. I liked Thor: Ragnarok. I;m not a big Natalie Portman fan, but I wonder, given the time and the material, if this could be a decent story. Maybe Portman has come around? There seems to have been a lot of behind the scenes "drama" with her and Mr. Hugo Weaving...

  2. Is King Kull the Beastman part troll, or is Captain Marvel making a joke?

    1. Sorry, it REALLY wasn't my intention to troll you.

  4. I'd rather like to see this King Kull meet the other one, REH's hero, who after all has been in comics as well: Maybe the heroic one was actually involved in the overthrow of the Beastmen's prehistoric empire?

  5. Beta Ray Bill is a real possibility for T:L&T. Kevin Feige has stated that he wants to bring Bill into the MCU, but has been waiting for the right moment. In fact, an early draft of the Thor: Ragnarok script included him, but he was cut out because there was simply too much going on. The same may be true of the upcoming film, but there's always the possibility of introducing him in the fifth Thor title -- even making his emergence the focus!

@AirDave: Well, I'm rather excited to see Natalie returning as Jane. And I'm pretty sure Hugo wasn't in either Thor film, nor any other MCU film besides Captain America: The First Avenger. (Or are you referring to the BTS drama on that film, independently of what went on with Natalie?)

PS: Ross, with the final season of Arrow coming up and Hawkeye getting his own limited series on Disney+, it may be time to do a photo cover with Steven Amell and Jeremy Renner.

  6. Beta Ray Bill belongs to the Cosmic Thor sub-genre, so I would think he would be more likely to show up in a Guardians OT Galaxy movie.

  7. Not a bad pun, Cap! :-)

But, me? I'd probably have gone for something along the lines of a "toe-tag team match."

  8. P.S.--if memory serves, Jane's first time in Asgardian male drag was as "Thordis" in a first-generation issue of "WHAT IF...?".

  9. Beta Ray Bill was probably left out of Thor: Ragnarok because they would have to spent even LESS time than they did killing The Warriors Three.

And frankly Natalie Portman as Thor really does not make sense despite the comics unless they did the opposite of what they did in Captain America: The First Avenger and use CGI to turn her big.

  10. Perhaps Jane Foster could meet Ravager, in "Rose and the Thor"

  11. Maybe DC's Captain Marvel could be paired with Magnum P.I.; except for Magnum not being super-powered (or of a dual identity), the two character are kind of alike, being both heroes and comedy relief(?).

Forget the best, I want to see the rest. I want drama, on the edge of your seat suspense, the unexpected! I want to see Thor giving Jimmy Olsen a tour of Asgard and the Nine Realms!

  14. How about this King Kull battling Beast Man from "He-Man & TMOTU?"
