There has been a lot of speculation about what the next cinematic team of Avengers will look like. If it was up to me, I'd give the team a rest and instead have Hulk and Valkyrie join Doctor Strange in introducing Namor and The Silver Surfer for a proper Marvel Defenders team. But more Avengers movies are an inevitability, so when they return there's only one character that I feel needs to be on the team - The Wasp! She really should have been introduced in the first Avengers film, as she was a founding member in the comics not to mention the leader of the team for a good long stretch. I know it's Hope Pym in the movies and not Janet Van Dyne currently operating as The Wasp, but I still want her to be a part of whatever new line up Marvel Studios comes up with.

Green Arrow and The Wasp & Yellowjacket

An interesting combo. That’s a powerful cover already with Green Arrow, so Yellowjacket and the Wasp were probably the only heroes who could be added without diluting it.
ReplyDeleteToby, I agree. It wouldn't be nearly as powerful with the Wonder Twins and Gleek.
ReplyDeleteMarvel Films should split the difference. Have Janet Van Dyne (as played by Michele Pfeiffer) should take over as chairperson/financier of the Avengers. While daughter Hope becomes an active field member.
ReplyDeleteRe: today's cover? I'll say this disparate trio is investigating Ray Palmer's abduction by Bertram Larvan (alias The Bug-eyed Bandit)!
Endgame teased a future with Namor at one point (in the holographic conference call with Okoye), so bringing him in on a Defenders team with Dr. Strange, Hulk, and Valkyrie will be a real possibility. His IP rights, as I understand it, are tied up with Universal the same way that Hulk's is, so if he appears it'll probably be under a similar deal (in team movies and other solo film, just not his own).
ReplyDeleteFor the future of the Avengers, there's been a lot of talk that Captain Marvel will take over the helm, but my impression is that her future adventures will continue to be space-based. I do think that Ant-Man and the Wasp will be a part of it, though, along with Spider-Man, the Scarlet Witch, and War Machine, along with whatever names Sam and Bucky are known at the time (I'm betting on Captain America and White Wolf).
And we've also gotten a further tease of Young Avengers (Stature, Hawkeye II, and Iron Lad), plus at least a nod to A-Force. Adding the Guardians of the Galaxy, we should have no shortage of superhero teams moving into the second Marvel Saga.
On a related note, I'm finding myself rather annoyed at Marvel Television. The Punisher Season 2, Cloak and Dagger Season 2, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 all take place post-Snap, but not only has there been no mention of it that I've noticed, but the first two seem to be happening in virtual isolation from anything else in the MCU.
@Bob: I've just come to the conclusion that every Marvel TV show is in its own universe until there is an actual crossover of the characters, since none of them are from Earth-616. I even take mentions (like "the incident (Avengers I)" in the Netflix shows) with a grain of salt.
ReplyDeleteAnd I would love to see a new "Exiles" mini-series where Momma Jessica Jones meets Netflix's Jessica, Quake-616 meets AOS's Quake, etc.
spoiler alert ** Since the big 3 have changed and they came in after being introduced in their own series, next Avengers movie would need to show the public who is there, how they get along, who are the leaders, and how they might grow. And who is the threat gonna be?
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm the first one to notice that the last two numbers were inverted in this issue number.
