Calvin & Hobbes and Man-Thing

I'm willing to bet there are a lit of owners that have named their new kittens "Hobbes", particularly during the original run of the Calvin & Hobbes comic strip.  Being a cat lover and owner myself, I can understand.  My current cat Ace is named after a fictional pet as well - just don't tell him it's Batman's dog!  Heck, the main reason I am interested in seeing Captain Marvel is to check out Goose the Cat (Chewie in the comics) because reviewers seem to agree that he steals the show.

  1. And I thought Hobbes was the responsible one! Great cover; gave me a good belly laugh.

  3. Why do I keep thinking "Rain drops keep falling on my head.." ?

  4. It could be worse, Ross. You could own a dog named "Streaky!"

Who might then retaliate by earning a name-change to "Whizzer" (lol!).

  5. This is your greatest C&H cover yet. I hope Bill Watterson sees it.

There actually is a breed of cat, called a Toyger, which has been bred to physically resemble a tiger as closely as possible while retaining the size of a domestic cat. (Interestingly, they've also started to display tiger-like behaviors, such as a love of water.) I've determined that I'd love to have one of these, and name him Tiny... yes, Tiny the Toyger.

And Goose does steal just about every scene he's in. To describe or even mention his biggest moment, though, would be a big spoiler. I'll just say that he's the sole occupant of the post-credits scene.

After you've seen the movie, how about a cover with Chewie meeting Chewbacca? (I know, I've already recently asked for a return of the Danvers Twins, and a smack-down with Billy Batson for the Captain Marvel name. It's just a thought.)

  6. My sister had a ginger cat that she named Milo, after the character from The Adventures of Milo and Otis :D

  7. Carol and Billy are just one round of the "I'm Captain Marvel" smack-down. Don't forget Mar-vell, Genis-vell, and Monica.

  8. Don't forget the 1966 android with the "Split!" personality.

  9. an idea for you to ponder, Ross...
a cover built around a picture of you cat with his Bat-hound namesake plus the leader of the original Royal Flush Gang and the Doctor's companion named Ace????
and some pithy caption about four aces....
this cover is both clever and cute...
    another winner....

  10. Jay and other Anonymous, as I commented earlier in the year, it's time for a return of Captains Marvel

  11. Have a super team of rip offs as in law suit inducing/causing Characters: Marvelman for instance : The Infringement Force! The Legion of Litigation! The Lawsuit Legion!

  12. @Brother Barnes: Throw in the Incredible Hulk and Ross could call it... "Civil Suits and Purple Pants."

  13. I like Jack-El's idea. Especially if you also throw in Ace Morgan (of the Challengers of the Unknown) and Capt. Ace Arn (aka Ultra the Multi-Alien). "Aces High!" But then again, that'd make the team too heavily DC-biased.

  14. Don't forget Snoopy, in his persona as a World War I flying ace. (Though that may be stretching things a bit... maybe he can be in the background, as an Easter egg.)

  15. Wouldn't that make him The Easter Beagle?
