Hawkgirl and Valkyrie

This is a pairing that I am surprised I had not done before.  I think it would make for a cool story.  What is Hawkgirl/Woman's status these days?  We saw a wingless version of Kendra Saunders in the Dark Knights: Metal event, but I am not sure if she is a part of the new Hawkman series that  spun out of that.

  1. I'm reading Hawkman right now and Hawkgirl has not yet appeared. She has been seen in Egypt and on Thanagar. I've seen her in the new Justice League book...

  2. With the animated Spider-man movie debuting today, maybe you could team up Spider-pig (The Simpsons Movie) and Spider-Ham.

  3. The 'Metal' event ended up grafting wings to Kendra, and she's now a Justice League member.

  4. Kendra is on the Justice League, but I think I saw a solicit featuring Shayera and Kendra in the same book.

  5. Unless things have changed in one of the more recent reboots (and J'ohn's post indicates otherwise), Hawkgirl and Hawkwoman are two separate characters: Hawkgirl is Hawkman's partner, while Hawkwoman is sort of her own entity as more of an antiheroine.

This is one of those rare cases on this blog where, while the pairing itself does seem quite natural, I'm not so sure about the story. I don't really see Hawkgirl, with her personal wings and Egyptian/Thanagarian origin, trying for leadership of the Valkyries. On the other hand, the cover does say "and" rather the "versus," so this could be just part of some ploy on the part of their common enemy -- or Hawkgirl could be influenced by Loki.

Unrelated: Some time ago I suggested a group of clumsy heroes, which someone dubbed the Klutzy Commandos. Among the suggested members were Captain Klutz (as the leader), the Tick, Awkwardman (of the Inferior Five), the Greatest American Hero, and Joxer the Mighty (those are just the ones that I can remember offhand). Just last night I thought it fitting to also include Inspector Gadget.

  6. The "Dark Metal" story arc was apparently another lead balloon for most comic book stores. The two nearest my hometown certainly didn't carry every issue with any great consistency!

And that goes double for "Doomsday Clock."

  7. @Bob Greenwade: I wonder if Jackie Chan (Jackie Chan Adventures) would also
fit: he has similar help as Inspector Gadget!

  8. @Anonymous II: how about Jackie Chan meets the Chan Clan?

  9. I just checked the Kamandi list--and we haven't yet seen "KAMANDI--on the PLANET OF THE APES!" ^_^

  10. Komandi on The Kim Komando Show. Yes I know Kim Komando is not an illustrated character, but a real life Radio host that talks tech & tech repairs, it would still make an awesome cover though.

  11. Kanjar-Ro (JLA Silver Age) meets our own beloved Hondo ( Star Wars: The Clone Wars) in a Skrull Acquisition Center.

  12. I can get behind Kid C's suggestion.

  13. @Bob: me, too. Especially if Grodd (from last year's GL/POTA crossover) were to telepathically hypnotize him in an effort to escape from that explosive muzzle Ursus put on him!*

    *Grodd, that is.

  14. @Bob & Cary: I'd buy a sequel like that, in a NYC minute!
