Marvel Boy, The Uranian, Quasar (at least the uniform) - whatever name he is going by, I've thought this character was cool since I first saw him in the pages of Fantastic Four. This is another cover based off of a suggestion my Mike Shirley, a Patron of this blog. Mike pointed out the Grayson connection between these two boy heroes, and I was surprised that it had never dawned on me before. Thanks, Mike!

That's a cool cover. I love how a lot of team-ups are based on those kinds of connections! Graysons; Powers Man and Girl. Because comics should be fun!
You know, I really love your covers. That's why it's so hard to correct you. Robert Grayson (the original Marvel Boy, also known as The Crusader and The Uranian) was never Quasar. That would be Wendell Vaughn, who inherited the Quantum Bands after Grayson disintegrated himself battling The Fantastic Four.
ReplyDeleteVaughn originally took the name of Marvel Boy, when he was working for SHIELD under the super-agents program, but changed him name to Quasar when some kids laughed at his name in an issue of The Incredible Hulk.
Sorry, but I'm a HUGE Quasar fan (sso much so that I do a podcast on him: http://twotruefreaks.com/shows.php?show=36), so that note just jumped out at me. Sorry to nerd-out on you. :)

ReplyDeleteLove these connections of the heroes being related Robin & Marvel Boy, Huntress & Hawkeye, Supergirl & Ms.Marvel But I'm thinking somehow the Graysons have to connect w/ Robert Grayson asst to the GA Robotman. It was est in All-Star Squadron he was Dick Grayson's cousin

ReplyDeleteI love the way you (re)captured those poses, Ross. Golden Age Marvel boy; so stalwart and stoic. Silver Age Robin; a little more streetwise. Yet, still not so jaded as to not be open-mouthed with shock at what he sees. For what are those gelatinous masses? Alien blood stains? Or protoplasmic remains of dissolved Earthlings?
Great cover as usual Ross! Now can you put together Dr. Who's Cybermen against the Avengers (UK) Cybernauts?

ReplyDeleteClarification to Cavillier1970: The golden age Robotman was Robert Crane. The man who helped build his robotic body, Charles Grayson, was a cousin of Dick's on Earth II. Eventually (so I've read secondhand -- never saw the original comics) Charles Grayson developed a brain disease, and left his body to Robert Crane, who was able to transplant his brain and regain a human body. (So in that sense, and that sense only, Charles Grayson was Robotman.)

ReplyDelete@Isaac: I found a number of "Dalek v. Cybermen" uploads on Youtube. But, the best one was a very neat compilation of 10th Doctor episodes (nearly 3 minutes long) featuring both Daleks and Cybermen, separately and as active combatants against each other!
