This cover comes about as the result of a concept from Reg Aubry and others in a recent comment section of this blog. I liked the idea of an entire team filled with heroes of questionable sanity. It only makes sense that these off-kilter champions would join together, as many have had adventures with one another in previous issues -
The Badger met Moon Knight in STF #832...
Moon Knight met The Creeper in STF #1022...
The Creeper met The Tick in STF #2309...
The Tick met Ambush Bug in STF #480...
... and I guess they all get together and meet Crazy Jane in this issue!
Thanks, Reg and the rest for a fun team idea!
Fun, fun, fun!
ReplyDeleteLet's see: Badger = 7+ personalities, Creeper = 2, Moon Knight = 3 (or more, by now?), Crazy Jane = 64 (although one of those may have been killed-off in 'Milk Wars'), Ambush Bug = [probably] only 1...I don't know about The Tick, but obviously at least 1, so you could argue that this is actually a team with 88+ members!
W00t!! I've made the big time! Thank you, Ross - that's a fun team.
ReplyDelete- Reg
@Ross and Reg: excellent work!
ReplyDeleteEven the Joker wouldn't be crazy enough to stand up to this group. He'd peacefully surrender, first.
Could you do one where The Tick meets All Might? Think of the sheer inspirational hammyness that would ensue!
ReplyDeleteGreat cover Ross. This, along with re-reading the Dr. Mid-Nite Secret Origins issue last night, got me wondering: have you ever done a group issue with the various doctors of comics? Drs. Mid-Nite, Fate, Strange, Occult, Light, etc.? All fighting against the latest nefarious plot of Doctor Doom of course. Though it might be even more interesting if Doom is leading them against an even greater threat.
ReplyDeleteThomas's greater threat: Dr. Bong, of course.
ReplyDelete"I know a guy, who knows a guy who knows a guy, who knows a guy...."
ReplyDeleteThis would be loads of fun as an actual comic. I can just imagine the discussions these heroes would have on methodology, tactics, morality, and pizza toppings.
Clearly their opposition would be a team including (but not limited to) the Joker, the Green Goblin, and the Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs at Midnight!
On another topic, with Halloween coming up, Ross, you might consider bringing together the Big Two Comics' respective Spirits of Vengeance, Ghost Rider and the Spectre. I'm not really able at this time to check to see if they've ever met before, but that would seem like a good time. They could even be at odds, considering how their missions of Vengeance come from (ahem) two very different sources.
Oooh, nice suggestion for Halloween, Bob!
ReplyDelete- Reg
Spectre and Ghost Rider have met twice already - STF #304 and STF #688
ReplyDeleteHey Larry! SPOON!!! The Amber Butane Man from the planet Schwaaaaab!
ReplyDeleteIn conclusion I really enjoy the uncertainty of whether or not Moon Knight is crazy, and it would be a crying shame if it's (or has been) revealed that he is one or the other. That was simply my 2 cents you can take it or leave it.
Cary Comic if memory serves me well the Joker can't stand the CreePeR, which is SOOO HiLaRiOuS XD XD XD XD!
ReplyDeleteROSS Great RED RIDER Reference in the Tittle by the way. :) Not to be confused with Red Ryder of course.
ReplyDeleteNice one again Ross! How about a gathering of the greatest heroes outside the worlds of Marvel and DC. A team-up featuring The PHANTOM, SPAWN, The SPIRIT, E-MAN, BADGER, CAPTAIN CANUCK, MISTER MONSTER, The AVENGER (from Justice Inc.) The SHADOW , and HELLBOY.
ReplyDeleteIt would be a "CRISIS ON ALTERNATE EARTHS"
ROSS Do a FEMforce (Americomics) Dirty Pair (Darkhorse) crossover.
ReplyDeleteKhonshu! Gesundheit.
ReplyDeleteNow for group therapy session obviously there psychiatrist is Harlie Queen!
ReplyDeleteYou left out the obvious team leader: FLAMING CARROT!
ReplyDeleteThere actually was a super group from Innovation Comics called the Lunatic Fringe. They were based on--
ReplyDelete"Merrily we roll along, roll along, roll along--"
*AHEM* They were based on--
"And the merry go round broke down, it made the darnedest sound--"
Oh, forget it. See for yourself.

Crazy cool cover as usual Ross, now match it by teaming up Racer X and Dick Dastardly!
ReplyDeleteThat's right! And, on Earth-STF, that particular Silver Age meeting might not have been ret-conned out of existence by all the other reality shifts in the primary DCU.
ReplyDeleteGood call, Brother! :-)
@Isaac: I wonder about Sly Sludge (Captain Planet and the Planeteers) and Largo Sludge (The New Adventures of Speed Racer).
ReplyDelete@Jay Johnson: or maybe even the greatest threat of all. Evil Ernie Fairchild!*
ReplyDelete*No relation to the Gen13 girl (that I know of).
Talking of offbeat partnerships, how about _
ReplyDeleteCaptain America and Binky?
(Okay, finding artwork that could work together might be a bit tricky, but...)
^_^
Have you ever thought of a group of Grim individuals? Such as Grimjack, Hogun the Grim, Grim of Billy & Mandy, any Grimm character (either from the TV show or the Brothers Grimm), etc. Oh and maybe everyone's favourite, Ben Grimm.
ReplyDeleteto Mr. Jones above instead of Ben Grimm i would suggest Benjy Grimm with his Thing Rings from the old Flintstones meet The Thing cartoons.....
ReplyDeleteGood idea, Jackel. That way, Benjy could probably meet up with Capt. Caveman and the Teen Angels!*
ReplyDeleteImagine the five of them having to contend with a certain Kulan Gath wanna-be (from SKULL THE SLAYER) and his army of pteradactyls.
@Carycomic: actually, I believe the incident you're alluding to occurred in MTIO:TOS #'s 35-36.
ReplyDeleteFunny, when I first read the title I thought it was inspired by Dean Ambrose.
ReplyDeleteAmbush Bug to Moon Knight: "You want Badger in our group?! We don't need no stinkin' Badger!"
ReplyDelete
