I used to get a kick out of the old Batman stories in which he would time travel via hypnosis with the help of Professor Carter Nichols. Back before he became strictly grim and gritty these types of stories (along with outer space adventures, crazy costume changes and bizarre physical transformations) were a fun change of pace from the usual gangster battling plots. One thing that I loved about
Batman: The Brave and the Bold was the way they embraced and paid homage to that crazy era in the caped crusader's history.
mightor and tor or conan or he man or thor or mighty mouse
ReplyDeleteMightor, Thor, Tor, Torkan
DeleteHarry, If Conan is on a cover it should be with Captain Comet or Batgirl. Conan and the Librarian.
ReplyDeleteConan and the Librarian sound cool; he could even comment "Sonja why are you wearing that outfit?" Part 2 could be Red Sonja with Batgirl.
ReplyDeleteI like the stories DC is putting out using the characters like Space Ghost, Mightor, Bird Man, etc.
Yes, The Animated Series is all but a category by itself and deserves all its accolades, but the one series I truly loved was Brave and the Bold...for the exact reason you state. And, considering both B&B and The Dark Knight debuted in the same year, it's proof the world can have and love both versions of Batman.
ReplyDeleteArchie and Harvey are kind of under-represented... for one thing, you shouldn't discount a shared love with DC and Marvel of Hostess fruit pies.
ReplyDeleteConsider these possibilities:
Wendy the Good Little Witch and/or Sabrina the Teenage Witch with John Constantine
Sad Sack with Sgt. Fury and/or Sgt. Rock
Casper the Friendly Ghost with the Specter
the Archie gang with the Legion of Superheroes
especially
Archie with Duo Damsel and/or Saturn Girl
Jughead and Matter-Eater Lad
Sad Sack and Darkseid
What about Melissa Joan Hart's Sabrina the Teenage witch and Phil Diffy (Phil of the Future); Phil being the byproduct of Sabrina's botched spell in around 1999 trying to conjure up Judy Jetson for a Sabrina-like sitcom (future technology has a good deal of similarity to magic).
ReplyDeleteMaybe the clan that made Mightor's club would make He-man's sword; they work very similarly!
ReplyDeleteI like those Harvey suggestions, it's just the disparate art styles that make them tough to look right to my eyes.
ReplyDeleteI think the obvious next match up in this vein should be Captain Mar-Vell and Young Samson and Goliath. Maybe with Dial H for Hero if you want to focus on the device-driven hero transformation.
ReplyDeleteI know there weren't a lot of comic appearances of the H-B heroes (H-B TV Super Heroes and Future Quest, and a bare couple in DC's Toonami and Marvel's H-B comic), but I think there are some keen match ups...
Space Kidettes and Teen Titans Go!
Birdman, The Falcon, and Hawkgirl - in fact, throw in Condorman and Raven (from T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents) and you have the Raptor Patrol!
The Galaxy Trio and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Aquaman and Moby Dick
Space Ghost and the Vision
Frankenstein Jr. and Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot - okay, that's probably a tough one. But it's such a good match... :)
I love the H-B super heroes, and I was so happy with Future Quest... I wish there were a serious renaissance for them. For a while, Space Ghost - as a serious hero - was really popular, and I was hoping for a live action movie. Yeah, I'm still dreaming...
This cover combines three of my favorite things:
ReplyDelete1. Old-school Batman
2. Time travel stories
3. Hanna-Barbera Superheroes
I'm with ELS in that I'm a fan the Hanna-Barbera heroes and loved Future Quest and Future Quest Presents. I'm also a big fan of Scooby Doo Team-Up. My only complaint is that so far no one has done a story with Inch High Private Eye.
I like Mightor and his secret Identity Tor. I apologize for not thinking of anything clever or funny to say.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Batman wants help locating Shanna the She-Devil's missing husband, Ka-Zar.*
ReplyDelete*If so, I'll guess he was kidnapped by Catwoman to lure Zabu the Smilodon into a trap.
Or, failing that, how about Deadman meets Casper? Or even Dollar and Bathound team up to locate an abducted Batman and Richie Rich?*
ReplyDelete*Thanks to the Japanese Anonymous for the inspiration.
Anything with the Hanna Barbera or Looney Tunes characters gets total aces in my book! Love it!
ReplyDeleteJapanese anonymous????
ReplyDeleteI know it would probably be bloody impossible, but how about Oingo Boingo playing at Deadman's Party with Elvira (Claypool DC etc.), Madame Xanadu (DC), Zatanna (DC (Did I misspell her name?)), Death (DC (Mrrrow <3)), Nightshade (Americomcs) and other mystical Gals, and maybe another dude but that's not really necessary.
ReplyDelete@ American Anonymous:
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't know about you. But, I can't translate those calligraphs! Which makes him/her anonymous to me.
Caey, I agree with you that the ideas the 8:32 post are good, but I disagree strongly that I am American. I've never even been in the Western Hemisphere. in
