Batman and The Shroud

This is another pairing that I never got around to in my Brave and The Bold: the Lost Issues days, but had always meant to.  Like Moon Knight, The Shroud began as a Batman-type in the Marvel Universe, but soon found his own niche.  I always got a kick out of his mysterious looking cloak, and I enjoyed when he recently surfaced in the pages of Daredevil.

  1. The Batman image is from one of the most disappointing comics of my childhood- B&B #200 was advertised as an Earth-1/Earth-2 Batman crossover, but they didn’t cross paths (as E-2 was dead). They just fought the same guy. In fact, as far as I’ve been able to determine, they never met, which was a bit of a lost opportunity.

  2. @Ross: YES! Thank you!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!!! :-D

@albarfie: I know how you feel. I felt the same way about Spidey's 1970's "team-ups" with Dracula and Doc Savage. With no direct contact in those two stories, they were more like glorified guest-appearances in Spidey's own mag!*

*Of which, the original MTU was the very first spin-off.

  3. The Shroud once kicked Dr. Doom's ass. And not in a silly way like Squirrel Girl did. #Fact.

Very cool cover Ross. I'd be really interested to see how a meeting/team-up like this might go.

  4. As soon a I saw cover I thought this looks like a classic B&B comic if Aparo drew it.

    Thanks.

  5. Only five comments for such an instant classic depiction?

    Oh, what jaded websurfers!

  6. Dale evidently didn't find that funny. Neither did I.

But, if Squirrel Girl had done that to Deadpool? Now, THAT would've been funny!

  7. Albarfie, was that the story with Brimstone? I remember the artwork being great, with the earth 2 part of the tale in Golden Age style and the earth 1 part in then modern style. T

    1. Yes, and it’s a comic that holds up well when I re-visit it. Especially with respect to Bruce not quite realizing Brimstone’s connection to the deceased E-2 Batman, but knowing that something both cosmic and meaningful occurred. But as a pre-teen, I was over-invested in a more direct type of team-up and it took me years to appreciate the issue for what it was.
