I discovered Metamorpho at a very early age and he quickly became one of my all-time favorite characters. In my mind he was an A-Lister right alongside Superman, Batman and Spider-Man, and I always wanted him to have a higher profile. He's found a home again in Jeff Lemire's new
Terrifics series, which looks very promising. It's good to see that comics creators are as fond of The Freak Who Never Fails as I always have been.
I enjoyed Metamorpho along with Black Lightning in The Outsiders. That was a cool team.
ReplyDeleteJust want to note that even with the original limitation of elements found in the human body, Metamorpho's abilities are terrifying. I'm looking at you, fluorine.
ReplyDeleteStill remember a Power Records story about metamorpho. Was probably my earliest exposure to him.
ReplyDeleteThat record had a great theme song, plus sweet Neal Adams cover art.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Metamorpho, as well, but miss his classic look.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I ever saw or heard of him was in a barber shop back issue of THE METAL MEN!* Where the title characters had been somehow brainwashed to turn against Doc Magnus.
ReplyDelete"Johnny's Barber Shop" was the best place to read those, for free, back in my hometown during the Sixties.
Over the last couple of years, I'm chagrined that they try to play him like a dumb guy. Super-genius? No. But he's not dumb.
ReplyDeleteSometimes they play him as dumb as Java. He was a special agent/explorer, wasn't he?
I believe the precise term used in the early Silver Age was "soldier of fortune."
ReplyDeleteBtw, Ross: have you ever done a Zatanna/Daredevil team-up?
He hasn't -- https://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/search/label/Zatanna
ReplyDeleteHow long has metamorpho looked like that?
ReplyDeleteThis the look I prefer with the Scarlet Witch with body stocking and think it would look good on Rogue since she tries to avoid accidental contact.
ReplyDeleteGeoforce, Katana and Metamorpho were the A team members of Outsiders IMO.
Has the Scarlet Witch ever teamed up with Star Sapphire?
ReplyDeleteNope! Star Sapphire has only been depicted, here, twice. Neither time with Wanda.
ReplyDeleteMore's the pity. :-(
