One scene I really liked in Justice League was Batman's battle with a Parademon at the beginning. So far Batman has been facing off against his human, non-powered adversaries in the movies, and it was definitely time to see him fighting super powered characters on screen. Now that the door has been opened I'd love to see Man-Bat show up in the next solo Batman flick. They could have Kirk Langstrom working with Professor Hugo Strange. Strange's genetic experiments created his Monster Men in the comics and could be a way to bring about characters like Man-Bat, Killer Croc and even Clayface.
I always saw Kirk Langstrom as a tragic figure. Like Bruce Banner. I never saw him as a rogue. Batman: TAS and The Batman cartoon seemed to shift things where he was actually a villain. But then, I saw him as part of The Batman Family in the Batman Family comic. I remember he even had another mutation into a wer-jaguar...
ReplyDeleteSkree that's how I think of man-bat, too. But I think there was a period when he was written as a villain. Can't see him with Hugo Strange, though. Spider-woman and Hugo, that's another story.

DeleteI tend to prefer Batman's human rogues like Penguin and Joker and save the metahumans for the metaheroes.

ReplyDeleteThe Axis has several vampire based team members and I could see Dr. Langstrom being recruited because one of their members was bit or to help defeat Axis vampire.

DC came out with a comic book spin-off of the 1990's Bat-cartoon. And one of the best one-shot issues featured a story called "The House of Dorian." A thinly-disguised pastiche of the post-WWII monster mashes from Universal Studios, it guest-starred Tygrus (from "Tiger, Tiger"); the Man-Bat (from "On Leathern Wings"); and Anthony Romulus (from "Moon of the Wolf"). All going at each other in a climactic three-for-all!
ReplyDeleteAs for this cover? Very, very intriguing! I will wildly guess that the impostor is...Namor. Think about it! Marvel published THE INVADERS around the same time the 1970's Sub-mariner wore that funky sleeveless black unitard (invented by Reed Richards to compensate for some kind of radical genetic shift in Namor's ability to survive out of water) in Subby's solo mag. While Man-Bat was given an ultimately short-lived series of back-up stories in Detective Comics.
Ergo: Langstrom knows the bare-chested dude with the Mr. Spock ears ain't the real deal.

And The Punisher Meets Archie is one of my all-time favorite crossovers. Not only was it unusual, but they managed to pull it off with flying colors....

@Earthling-13: maybe Teth-Adam could be written up as half-Atlantean on his mother's side? Hence, Shazam picking him to be the first Champion of Order for ancient Egypt (alias "Land of Khem").
