Legion of Super-Heroes Vs. Kang

After Loki, Ultron and Thanos, Kang seems like the perfect villain to next face off against the cinematic Avengers.  I think the rights to the character had been tied up with The Fantastic Four, but that situation promises to be solved soon.  King's cross-time tampering would be a welcome change of pace from the usual alien invasions

  1. Nice one!
How about Night Force gaining a few new members like Dr. Strange or Mandrake?

  3. P.S.---I'm guessing the Time Trapper earned Kang's enmity (always wanted to use that word!) by stealing the ultra-anodyne ray.*

    *See STF #2066.

  4. And now Ross produces yet another concept that I'd love to read...

I'm trying to place the original cover that was used as the basis of this one. The 'Night Force' advert gives the general period... LSH versus???
(Fairly sure that I used to have a copy of whatever it was...)

  5. It was a World's Finest Cover with The Composite Superman

  6. Before I scrolled down and saw that Kang had destroyed the Time Trapper, I thought the big reveal was going to be that he WAS the Time trapper. Why not, everybody else has been. Also, Kang has two identities already, why not a third?

  7. Actually, Kang does have at least 3 identities, at least in classic continuity: Kang, Rama-Tut, and Immortus. And according to at least a couple of stories, he was also the Scarlet Centurion and Iron Lad.

  8. @Jay JOhnson: I've often wondered if the LSH's Time Trapper is a futuristic version of the Doom Patrol's General Immortus. To my knowledge, neither one has been seen in a DC comic since ZERO HOUR!

  9. With Kang as the next cinematic Avengers foe... well, why not? The producers could even plant a few seeds for a cinematic revisit of Avengers/JLA (but vague ones, in case the DC guys don't want to play, or the DCEU tanks).

  10. @BG: The latter possibility is more likely, given how temporary the much better-written-and-illustrated "First Wave" imprint proved to be. And the "New Red Circle" imprint before that!

  11. Now, this would've been a must-buy in about 1982. I can see it being a nice summer two-parter that acts as a warm-up to THE GREAT DARKNESS SAGA.

Fantastic layout and era-specific colours albeit amped-up by the majestic energy vortex ablaze behind Kang. Nice approximation, too, of Keith Giffen and Larry Mahlstedt's LSH artwork.

Really awesome to see one of the classic LSH line-ups facing Kang in a 20th century setting. I reckon Cos and LL would be able to contain Kang in a combination magno-lightning field while Wildfire hurls flaming bolts at the time-meddling terror. But Kang breaks free and the resulting energy feedback wave knocks out Cos and LL and sends Wildfire slamming through the billboard for NIGHT FORCE. WHAMMO!!!

Perhaps he ends up on the rooftop used by the trio of ladies who shared Peter Parker's apartment block in the 80s.

Colossal Boy wades in next and matches the Big K. blow for blow..

POOM! KRA-AAK! WHUMP! Cue colossal property damage - but Kang takes CB outta the picture with a doozy of a eye-beam blast!

Thus, it's Supes to the rescue, hauling the chrono-tyrant back into the vortex, and shatters the control devices on Kang's belt, plunging the villain into a temporal version of the Phantom Zone.

Kang, adrift in the Time Wastes, is observed by a shadowy figure. A burly, brooding figure deep in shadow. That figure is - DARKSEID.

The ruler of Apokolips raises a faint smile as he watches Kang tumble through time. He finally speaks and says: "Amateur."

A NEXT ISSUE box in lurid purple says: NEXT: THE GREAT DARKNESS SAGA. (Need we say more?!)

  12. @my namesake: the only upside to your scenario is Wildfire getting used by the aforementioned trio. ;-D

  13. I wonder if the Time Trapper should have been Krona, the renegade Guardian. It would explain the immortality. Maybe he was trying to manipulate time so he could see the Universe, or at least a new Universe, come into being, which was always Krona's goal?

Meanwhile, I agree with Emsley Wyatt that "Kang, the Time Trapper" would be a great idea, especially if DC and Marvel ever revive "Amalgam Comics". Of course, that Kang might have to watch out for treachery from his henchwoman, Gloramora the Time Enchantress.

  14. @KC: Yeah! Especially if she fell for Thorion of the New Gods.

Time Trapper's been back a time or two since then; most recently, as far as I know, he was an older version of Superbrat-Prime... who vanished when the younger version punched him! (in 'Legion of Three Worlds', which was [loosely] part of 'Final Crisis').

Yeah, right: emphasis on the sarcastic quotes!
