Ever since I created
Dark Matter, a team that specialized in the use of darkness and shadow, I have been meaning to put together a group of heroes with light-based abilities to balance them out. It's good to know that these characters are getting more exposure lately. There have been versions of Doctor Light and The Ray on the DC CW shows, Monica Rambeau is strongly rumored to be appearing in the upcoming
Captain Marvel, Dagger has an upcoming series on Freeform, and Lightray will be a part of Ava Duvernay's
New Gods film.
Dave sez,
ReplyDeleteOne of my regrets is that I totally missed The Ray series from the '90's.
Any plans to put the Light Brigade and Dark Matter together? That appears to be quite a pairing.
ReplyDelete@Mickey: Dagger would probably make light of it. While, to Cloak, it just wouldn't matter.

Another catch phrase for a comic book cover could be "Cry Uncle" for an Inspector gadget/Jackie Chan Adventures team-up; because each titular character, when paired up with their nieces make similar enough(?) duos.
ReplyDeleteI'm more in favor of what I like to call "The Trenchcoat Trio." Inspector Gadget; Inch High, Private Eye; and Agent Tom of T.H.U.M.B. The first and third characters would be especially appropriate as they both fought subversive organizations called M.A.D.!
ReplyDeleteTo the second Anonymous:
ReplyDeleteAt last! Another Inch High Private Eye fan.... Ever since Scooby-Doo Team-Up started I've been hoping for a a meeting between the Scooby Gang and Inch High. An Inch High issue of Future Quest Presents would be even better.
Monica Rambeau is by far my favorite of these characters. Her introduction in that Spider-Man book was so cool, and her subsequent development in the Avengers was fantastic.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree with you more, Ken. I always hoped Marvel would someday team her up with Will o'the Wisp and Corona. Alas! I was destined to be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThe Dark Brigade out numbers Light Brigade by one so maybe it needs a new member, Dazzler maybe? And a conflict between the two in the style of one of the old DC tabloid covers would make a nice ##00 cover!
ReplyDeleteGlenn, or one of the characters who look like they are made of light, like Jonni Thunder or Lighting (daughter of Black Lightning) or even Fire (formerly the Green Fury).
ReplyDeleteOops. That should have Fagin said Lightning, not Lighting. Is there any way of editing comments to fix typos?
DeleteAaagh!! Another autocorrect error...
Deletevillians for them to fight shadowthief shade neekra and the darkness
ReplyDelete@my namesake: what about one of the energy-based superheroes from the Golden Age who are now public domain? Like, say, Pyro(-electric) Man.
ReplyDeleteGreat cover as always, Ross. I thought for sure you'd title this one "Charge of the Light Brigade!" :)
ReplyDeleteGregg
"In Brightest Day"
ReplyDeleteThis would certainly make for some good light reading. #BadPunNoCookie
ReplyDeleteThat title, "Charge of the Light Brigade," might be good if the team makes a second appearance, especially if they're fighting someone like Electro.
And pairing them with Dark Matter does seem a natural thing. Wasn't there some period in the comics when Cloak and Dagger had a falling-out? If I'm not just imagining that, it could be fuel for a story with both teams.
Now for a team with fire-slingers! You can start with Fire, Sun Boy, and the second (female) Firebrand from DC, and Sunspot from Marvel; I'm not sure who else.
Bob, check out The Hotheads in the labels section for that one.
ReplyDelete"hot stuff"
DeletePutting Light Brigade and Dark Matter together sounds awesome in theory but it might make for a crowded scene.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see Midnighter & Apollo from The Authority take on Cloak & Dagger some time.
P.S. @ Bob and Ross: you could add "The Flame and Flame Girl" (two more public domain Golden Agers) to that rather hot line-up.*
