Robocop and The Punisher

I was watching a commentary on Star Wars: Rogue One last night and a comment was made about how Darth Vader moved around with slow deliberate confidence, he was powerful and capable enough that he did not need to run.  Robocop strikes me the same way.  It's cool to see him slowly and effectively dispatch his opponents.  It would just seem wrong to watch him ever break into a full trot.

  1. It would be even more wrong for him to run as fast as the $6,000,000 Man! They'd have to film him using time-lapse cinematography, so they could run it, slowly, later on. And do you know how expensive that is, these days?

    Very!!!!!!!

    ;-D

    1. I'm glad you used classic Robocop. People seem to totally ignore the remake just as most remakes are ignored (Ghostbusters, Total Recall, Conan, etc). The only remake that seemed to work is Planet of the Apes which is technically a prequel.

  2. Robocop could run in order to head off a suspect, or to get to the scene of the action (though, doesn't he have a motorcycle or something? I don't remember), but otherwise I agree with you, Ross. A hero who beats the bad guys without getting worked up is pretty badass.

On another topic, I've been reading the tales of Mowgli in The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book, and I'm taken with how similar his life (in the books) is to that of Tarzan. I think that those two should definitely meet, here or somewhere else.

    1. @bob Lords of the jungles? Africa vs India? It could work but I think you would need to use the Disney versions of each to have it mesh without getting too Classics Illustrated.

  3. @BG and Answer Man: I think they already _did_ meet! In one of Philip Jose' Farmer's paperback pastiches about Sherlock Holmes.*

*See the WOLD NEWTON UNIVERSE website for exact title.

I believe John Carpenter gave similar instructions to the actor who played The Shape (i.e. Michael Myers) in the first Halloween film.

  5. This makes me think of Robocop vs Terminator, which makes me want to suggest Conan the Barbarian vs the Terminator. You've had Conan face Aliens and the Predator, I'd love to see an end to the Trilogy as it were :D
(Or Deathstroke vs the Terminator, that's be fun too)

  6. Cary Comic, the book you are referring to is "The Adventure of the Peerless Peer" in which Sherlock Holmes meets Tarzan. This novel also includes appearances by The Shadow and G-8. Due to copyright issues with the Burroughs estate, the story was later rewritten as "The Adventure of the Three Madmen" with Mowgli taking the place of Tarzan.

The book is available today under the title "The Peerless Peer" as part of "The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" series. In this version, Lord Greystoke has been restored. As far as I know, no version exists that includes both Tarzan and Mowgli. Of course, where P.J. farmer is concerned, anything is possible!
