ROM & Star Trek Vs. Aliens

I watched Alien: Covenant recently, and while it was well made and acted, it felt kind of unnecessary.  Almost every big scene seemed to be recreating a moment from one either Ridley Scott's original Alien or James Cameron's sequel, Aliens.  The result just seemed bloated and derivative to me.  I liked a lot of the action, I just felt as though I had seen it all before.

Thank you to Tom Zilla, a patron of this blog, for suggesting this 3-way encounter!

  1. Yeah! AC kind of left me cold, too. Although, not for the same reason(s) as it did you. I know that the real-life reason for Dr. Shaw's absence is that Noomi Rapace was probably unavailable to reprise her role from PROMETHEUS. But, I still didn't like her being killed off. And the Jason/Freddy/Michael plot twist, at the end of AC was worthier of one of those aforementioned slasher film characters!

  2. Excellent rendering, Ross!

Although, I can't help wondering; if Marvel still had the licensing rights to Rom, would he eventually have crossed paths with the Brood via the Dire Wraiths? With the latter, perhaps, influencing the physical appearance of the former as a magical side-effect of consorting with the N'garai?*

*Both were obviously influenced by the Giger-esque xenomorphs of the ALIEN film franchise.

    Dire Wraiths are shape-changers.

  5. John Small I believe that is McCoy.

I wonder what a meeting between ROM and Rom, Quark from DS9's nephew would be like?

  6. About a year ago IDW and Dark Horse announced a Star Trek TNG crossover with Aliens. Sadly only two munths later it was cancelled.

Also, I'd love to see the Doctor meet Rom and reveal he's part Cyberman

  7. John and FLF: That's Kirk lying on his back there. He wore that green shirt from time to time.

  8. I wonder how long Etrigan would last against the xenomorphs during an episode of STAR TREK: TOS? I mean, he does wear a red shirt!

But aren't the two characters pointing their phasers at each other both 'Spock'?

More likely, the xenomorphs wouldn't last even a New York minute against him! Given that he could burn them to a crisp with his pyrokinetic mitts.

  11. Dammit, Jim. I'm a doctor, not a superhero!

  13. @Cary: Ohhhhhhhhh! As in, Dr. Benjamin Spock; got it.

  14. I get that the one behind the xenomorph is supposed to be McCoy, but it really does look like another Spock. Although to be fair, I suspect that the problem lies with the source material for the image.

@Cary: LOL Thank you! I always roll my eyes whenever anyone confuses the two!
