Zatanna, Dr. Fate & Phantom Stranger and The Hulk

It's too bad that rights issues are preventing The Hulk from another solo film outing, but I don't mind too much because I like seeing how he interacts with other heroes anyway.  It will be fun to see him alongside Thor, and I hope for more movie appearances as well.  I'd love to see Spider-Man and the Hulk on the big screen together... and of course I one day hope to see a live action Hulk/Thing throwdown.

  1. On the one hand, I really think The Incredible Hulk television series was pretty definitive for the character. Even though it was more like The Fugitive than The Hulk. Edward Norton's The Incredible Hulk was an awesome adaptation. I was not disappointed by it. I was kinda hoping to see the Leader...

  2. I'd really like to read this one. Yes, I know that's not the most original comment on this blog, but I'm judging a book by its cover, and there isn't even a book.

  3. Air Dave's right. Norton's version was the best of the silver screen Hulks, thus far. Hands down/bar none/case permanently closed!

  4. Agree I'd like to see this story, outstanding cover. I prefer Z'z fishnets (and think Zatanna would be as good as Doctor Strange with right treatment) but like the outfit she wore in JLA for a while as well. Why shouldn't a mistress of magic have alternate working clothes?

  5. I agree with the first Anon about wanting to read this story. It's yet another very well-done cover.

I also agree with Glenn about Z's costume; I prefer the early outfit with fishnets -- not because of the fishnets (in a live-action version I'd likely try to replace them with slacks), but because they resemble what a woman (at least, at the time Zatanna first appeared) might wear to perform stage magic. The one shown here is too obviously superheroic.

  6. How about Hulk meets Frankenstein's monster?

  7. Would you do a Young blood issue, it would be something new.

  8. I'm no that familiar with the members, but at least one is likely to appear.

  9. @ Glenn: they tried giving Zee slacks (bell-bottoms, at that!) along with a Jackie Onassis-type hairstyle. Second biggest sartorial mistake. The first was that ruby scarab headdress; always had the feeling that would turn out to be some kind of mind-controlling Lovecraftian parasite!

  10. Cary, why are you using my name?

  11. @Anonymous # 2: why are you trying to frame your namesake?

  12. I just found it hard to believe that more than one person would use the phrase mind-controlling Lovecraftian parasite, let alone "always" have had that phrase in mind

  13. If you are going to use Youngblood need to have some vampires. Youngblood to no blood makes sense.

    1. If you're going to request lame titles I throw in Atlas/Seaboard The Brute vs The Hulk. Hardly anyone on the planet remembers 70's Atlas.

  14. @ Anonymous 2: Just a little good-natured pastiching, namesake.*

    *That's French for "plagiarism." ;-D

  16. If one's going to plagiarize, one should do so whole hog (rather than half-ass).

    LOL!

  17. @ both Anons: if either of you are going to plagiarize, at least do it right!

    :-P

  18. Atlas/Seaboard the Brute vs Hulk, if you're going to bring up washed up concepts.

Hardly anyone on the planet wants to remember '70s Atlas...

  21. So do I. Ditko's "The Destructor" ruled!

  22. Atlas's super heroes were an interesting experiment with a grittier, more downbeat vibe than Marvel. They are quite good for the most part when looked at objectively. Unfortunately many people haven't read them or assume "Marvel ripoff," when in fact the line was very different until the published insisted on pushing titles in a Marvel direction, resulting in sudden changes that made no sense for the comics.

  23. These covers, Super Team Family covers, lost issues, is a fan-made comic book issues right? Because I just had hopeful, full-on fangirl squeal of Zatanna meeting Hellboy, Doctor Strange and teaming up? Because where DC and Marvel at, it will never happen to cross-universes. Even though Zee had travelled into Vertigo Comics to meet John Constantine/Hellblazer's world, and managed to pull-out and enter DC world. Hellblazer crossed worlds because of how much he loved Zee, Mistress of Magic. Idc what anyone says, they are meant to be. He will rearrange the stars, to be with Zee. They are destined and fated to be together. But I am just so sad that this beautiful cover is not real lol.
