The Fantastic Four Vs. Darkseid

Growing up, The Fantastic Four was the cornerstone of the Marvel Universe to me.  It's sad to see that their comic is no longer being published.  I am hoping that a Spider-Man type of deal can be made where Marvel Studios will ba able to have a hand in guiding any future cinematic attempts.  Seeing them on the big screen alongside the rest of the Marvel heroes would be just the shot in publicity the team needs to make a go for it in comic form again.

  1. What does Darkseid wants with Doom's machine? Traveling to find the Anti-Life Equation? Steal Supes as a baby?

  2. Yeah, I actually think the FF (and Doctor Doom, of course) are a more important "missing piece" to the MCU than Spider-Man was. The FF were always so deeply integrated into the wider Marvel Universe, right from the beginning. And, of course, Doom is exactly the villain the MCU needs.

  3. I agree with comment except recent comic history (hard to tell "recent" with messes of timeline) Spider-Men have been part of Avengers and the Avengers are cornerstone to MCU.

I so not understand why FF are being punished but X-Men/Wolverine/Deadpool are not but I do not follow Marvel politics anymore.

  4. Glenn, the X-Men don't get any new mutant characters because Fox would have the film rights, and Wolverine was killed off. That whole thing with film rights is why Marvel is not publishing FF now. Marvel movies can't use Skrulls or Kang the Conqueror or Galactus or Silver Surfer unless they get the rights back. So many classic stories that have to be totally changed or abandoned, just so we can get a hot mess like the last FF movie with Doom turned into an emo whiner computer hacker, or the one before that where Galactus is a cosmic fart cloud.

  5. Glenn Host- I know the usual assumption is that it's because of the movie rights that Marvel cancelled the FF, and that's probably one of the factors, but the fact is a lot of younger Marvel fans aren't into the FF at all- which is too bad. Many younger fans find the FF as a group "silly" and/or "old fashioned", and mostly know Reed from his part in Civil War, which gives them a distorted view of him. On the other hand, the X-Men, Wolverine, and Deadpool are all still very popular.

Darkseid tried the latter -- without using time-travel, though -- in a published 'Elseworlds' story called "Superman. The Dark Side".
This did not end well for Darkseid...

  7. I really do hope that the MCU version of the Fantastic Four would be better than the atrocity that was Fant4stic.

  9. Maybe Marvel could do an intercompany crossover with DC involving the FF's 1967 Hanna-Barbera incarnation. That kind of golden anniversary nostalgia seems to be working for all the Batman '66 crossovers. Not to mention the recent team-up with GL Hal Jordan and Future Quest Space Ghost! And I _really_ shouldn't mention it as the cover, featuring both of their greatest enemies, was kind of misleading (due to lack of same within the covers).*

*It would have been SO great seeing Spider-Widow siding with the Spider Guild against them.

  10. The Fantastic Four would have a tough time lasting four minutes against Darkseid !

If the Legion of Super - Heroes had a fifteen round slug fest with Superboy, Supergirl, Mon-El, Ultra Boy, Dev-Em , Duplicate Boy Brainiac 5..... how could Reed Richards and Company have a snowballs chance in Hell ?

  11. @ Rob collier: Darkseid needs it to visit the last place he ever thought the Anti-life Equation would be hidden. The pocket dimension of...

    ...Riverdale.

  12. The answer your question, Anonymous, because the Fantastic Four--especially Reed Richards--above all else are great problem solvers. The would find a way to prevail.

  14. Dear Ross: Was this inspired by the FF Annual where they met the Sphinx (initially a Nova foe)?

  15. No, I just realized that I hadn't paired them yet.

  16. To the second anonymous:

Look at the times of our two posts. Your post must have appeared while I was writing mine. Therefore, when I started writing my post, there was only one "Anonymous" post. By the time I actually posted my comment there were two!

  20. Actually, it was a medical spin-off that ABC had planned for Season 2 of the 1990 crime drama COP ROCK. Fortunately, however, there was no Season 2!

Unfortunately, a bad precedent had been set.

    Koff! *Duet* Koff!
