This cover comes about from a suggestion by
STF Patron Ken Roskos. I had to smack my head when I read it because I could not believe that I hadn't thought of it before, it feels like a natural. In fact, I liked the idea of these two together so much that I made it a two-parter - so make sure to stop by again tomorrow for the thrilling conclusion!
Who knows what E-vill lurks?
ReplyDeleteI always thought that a shadow/Spectre team up would fit perfectly.
ReplyDeleteMy thanks to Mr. Roskos for suggesting this. And an equally profuse thanks to you, Ross, for depicting it! The Shadow's ability to cloud men's minds has always been regarded as just a sufficiently advanced form of hypnosis. No mo more supernatural than his twin .45 ACP's. But, the Phantom Stranger? His backstory has always been shiftier than even post-COIE Power Girl's origin!
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine the Shadow's frustration at not being able to intimidate PS the same way he does both gangsters and even his own network. Highly similar to that of the unhealthily skeptical Dr. Thirteen!
As to the suggestion proffered by Anonymous? I think a team-up between the Spectre and Will Eisner's Spirit would be more appropriate.
Considering that you have another big 100-Page Spectacular coming up, in another 15 issues, how about something unprecedented? Like, for instance, the JLA meets Femforce (AC), Justice Machine (Comico/Innovation/Millenium), the Protectors (Malibu/Marvel), the League of Champions (Heroic Graphics) _and_ the Mighty Crusaders (Archie/Impact/Red Circle)?
ReplyDeleteOr, if that's too comlicated, how about the Martian Manhunter playing chess against Lady Death (Malibu/Chaos/D.E.)?
Heck, how about an all-Death team? DC's Death, Lady Death, any other incarnations, and maybe toss in Deadman or the Spectre...
ReplyDelete@ My above namesakes: I'm in favor! Although, Lady Death is currently published by Coffin Comics. It's just the _rest_ of Chaos! that was bought up by Dynamite Entertainment.
ReplyDeleteTwo of my favorites together for the first time! I'll be sure to tune in tomorrow....
ReplyDeleteAs I was reading over the comments, it occurred to me that The Creeper would make for an interesting team-up with The Shadow. They both like to pretend to be supernatural (At least, that's how The Creeper used to be portrayed. I don't know if he's still presented that way.), and they are both known for laughing a lot. But whereas The Shadow likes to stick to... well... the shadows, The Creeper likes to act mysterioso in a very loud way. I think that he'd annoy the heck out of The Shadow, but in a fun way....
You're right, Sonofjack. Two sides of the same coin, you make some interesting connections that I never thought of.
ReplyDeleteAnd they both have distinctive, but very different, laughs.
ReplyDeleteI am honored by your comment, Ross....
ReplyDeleteAnd I confess that I only made that connection two minutes before I wrote about it!
Thanks Gary Comic, and thank you Ross!
