Warriors of Wakanda

Black Panther is of course a key member of The Avengers, but I thought it would be cool if he had his own home-based team as well.  I liked the glimpse of Wakanda that we saw at the end of Captain America: Civil War, and I look forward to seeing that setting explored in the Black Panther solo film.

  1. If your goal was to only use characters who are from Africa or primarily work in Africa then Icon and Brother Voodoo don't fit, but characters like Storm, Impala, and Dr Mist would. But if it's just a group assembled by Black Panther I could see recruiting the other two.

  2. Yeah Icon would have to travel from Dakota but I figured T'challa would have access to JLA-style transporters and the team needed a powerhouse on it.

  3. How about a team of Phantoms? You can have The Phantom, Phantom of the Opera, Phantom Stranger, Phantom Lady, Blonde Phantom, Danny Phantom, Phantom Girl, and Funky Phantom. I think it would be Phantastic!

  4. Couldn't you have just used an image of the public domain Black Panther from Golden Age Centaur Comics?

  5. Ross, I'm getting a 'photo not found' generic kitten image instead of the cover, and the image page says 'This person moved or deleted this image". Are you also 'Silverager1969' or were you hacked?

  10. I trust CIA to find it out, or, wait, I`ll call Mulder! Trust no one!

  11. Mr. High: You forgot Bob Phantom. More likely, you probably never heard of Bob Phantom. :)

  14. Ahhhhhhhhhh! There's today's cover art. Glad you overcame the technical difficulties. :-)

P.S. Have you ever considered a three-way team up between Batman, T'Challa, _and_ Silver Age Luke Cage? You could depict them as going up against M'baku the Man-Ape and Blockbuster. You could even entitle it... "CAGE MATCH!"

  15. The Phantom ... he's based in Africa and is a 21st generation African. OK

Vixen and B'Wana beast ... both derived their powers from African magic. OK

Brother Voodoo ... his magical tradition has it's roots in Africa and many of the Loa are still actively worshipped there. OK

Icon ... I don't see it. He's not even African by ancestry, as he's an alien in a reconfigured body. Fail.

    5 out of 6.

  16. Brother Voodoo is from Haiti which is not in Africa.

But it says Warriors of Wakanda (a fictional African country) not Justice League of Africa. Black Panther could have recruited anyone. Even the original Justice League of America included a Kryptonian, an Amazon, a Martian, and an Atlantian, as founding members followed quickly by two Thangarians, other aliens, and eventually citizens from other countries.

  17. Interesting combination. Normally the Phantom works alone* (*old jungle saying) although on earth STF he has previously worked with Vixen. Has Wakanda become a sponsoring country for the Jungle Patrol?

  18. I made my New Year's resolution and became Patreon to this blog and Girl Genius.

This team-up/team just does not work for me. Look at his recent call for help, look at the composition of his teams; he might have one token white character but not two. He has has started having the same single color vision as teams in 60s.

And I agree with other commenters that Icon does not fit.
