Poor Spidey. His marriage was wiped away because of concerns that it made him seem too old, and now a new young, hip Spider-Man swings into town, making Peter Parker the "old" Spider-Man anyway. Does that mean that he will get his bride back? Not while Marvel is about to introduce a new teenage Peter in the movies, I suspect.
Dan Piraro also considered the age of Spider-Man a few months ago: https://safr.kingfeatures.com/idn/cnfeed/zone/js/content.php?file=aHR0cDovL3NhZnIua2luZ2ZlYXR1cmVzLmNvbS9CaXphcnJvLzIwMTYvMDgvQml6YXJyb19wLjIwMTYwODEzXzYxNi5naWY=
ReplyDeleteMethinks the leering guy with the red bow-tie is secretly controlling Deadman. Maybe it's the Chameleon using a Wundagorian clay statue?
ReplyDeleteWhat's weird is that we're now right back where we were during the pre-BND years, only twice as much because we do now have a comic about a married Pete and MJ experiencing parenthood.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with BND (besides EVERYTHING) is that, as many fans pointed out at the time, it was a needless move because if people wanted a younger Spidey there was already one appearing in another, equally popular comic. Another, which in fairness could be argued tainted the marriage somewhat, is that to have Peter actually grow up but still have almost the exact same angst and worries he did as a teenager is...deeply unsettling. The solution obviously being to have the adult 616 version actually behave like an adult instead of backing him and MJ into a corner and wiping everything out.
So I think just doing different books about the points in Spidey's life (Regular Amazing/Miles's earth/Gwen's earth/Married Peter and MJearth/Mayday Parker's earth/Miguel O'Hara's future earth) and letting reader's decide if they fit together would be a better solution. That the books be ABOUT different aspects of the character but only FORM A CONTINUITY if you really wanted them too, like the late great Dwayne McDuffie suggested as a way of dealing with the problems of continuity and shared universes.
Unfortunately, Simon, Marvel's big shots only heed the advice of those whose suggestions lead to profitable increases in sales.
