Zippy and Pinhead

I can't honestly day I always got the humor, but there was something about the Zippy the Pinhead cartoon that always kept me coming back.  I liked the artwork by Bill Griffith, and the whole affair was just so weird.  It definitely stood out among all of the more traditional comic strips in the paper.

  1. Personally, I never heard of Zippy before WOTI #1. Was he a contemporary of Outcault's Yellow Kid?

  2. It's still running, isn't it? You speak of it in the past tense. I thought it was still around.

  3. Another brilliant idea! (Anonymous, Zippy originated in underground comics in the '70s. His image was sometimes used in the early Punk Rock movement.)

  4. Only in the pages of WAR OF THE INDEPENDENTS (as unpredictably published by Red Anvil Comics).

  5. I only know of Zippy from a reference or two in Clonezone's adventures.

Still, how about a meeting between him and Ziggy Stardust?

  6. Check out the earlier Zippy collections. I enjoy the newspaper strips but loved the underground comics. Not for everyone but recommended if you like absurdist humor.

  9. Zippy's more like a contemporary of R. Crumb than R. Outcault.

  10. Who's R. Crumb?*

*Dead serious question. I've never heard of him, either.
