Jonah Hex and Red Wolf

We have seen a couple of versions of Jonah Hex on the big and small screen, with varying degrees of success, and I am sure we will again at some point down the line.  How cool would it have been to have seen a live action Hex back in the day though?  I can imagine Clint Eastwood in his prime taking on the role,

  1. I could see Clint Eastwood as Hex! Shame no one ever thought of it back in the day...

  2. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Hex was at least partly based on Eastwood's characters. Hex debuted in 1972, several years after Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly, which were all released in the US in 1968. It also came after Hang 'em High (1968), and Two Mules For Sister Sara (1970).

I've wondered a lot about Red Wolf. The initial issues featured a lot of (supposedly) Cheyenne terms. At first I thought they were authentic, but I've learned that at least some (like Owayodata) seem to be made up. Then again, they were written by Gardner Fox, who had a reputation as a serious researcher. I wonder if he was using terms he thought were authentic.

  3. Tommy Lee Jones should star in the next big screen attempt at portraying JH. He'd be perfect in the title role!

  4. I cannot possibly imagine that, as Hex has been introduced in the CW-DCU, they won't use him again. Maybe if Flash keeps time traveling (sigh...), he can pop up. Or just set another LoT adventure in his era - maybe his first meeting with Rip Hunter.

  6. Maybe JONAH HEX will SOON return to the big screen or TV. There seems to be growing interest in the Western genre again these days as evidenced by recent films like FORSAKEN, BONE TOMAHAWK, and the new MAGNIFICENT SEVEN remake.

  7. I check this site often and enjoy the nostalgic feeling I get when I see these covers.

So many times I wish these had been actual stories like this one featuring Hex® and Red Wolf® .

    I'd definitely have bought them.

I'd like to suggest a cover of ..
    "Jimmy Olsen"® and "Rick Jones"®
taking on "Darkseid"® and " Thanos"® with Olsen and Jones receiving the cosmic equivalent of a " wood shampoo " .

I'd have bought multiple copies of it !

  8. If you ever read the original comic that Hex debuted in, the non-scarred part of his face was pretty clearly based on Eastwood.

  10. One of the great covers and team-ups I've been waiting for!!!! Thank you, thank you.

And I agree with Knightsky. The early Jonah Hex, especially when he held a cigar stub in his clenched teeth, was obviously based on Eastwood in any of the spaghetti westerns.
