This was a tough cover to create, even though it may look fairly basic. The splash page that I used as the basis features a raining scene, which didn't really work with the final image that I was going for. So, in addition to losing the extraneous characters that I did not want, I also had to "erase" all the raindrops on Hawkman and the dock by using the clone stamp tool. It was kind of painstaking, but worth it to be able to use one of my favorite Winged Warrior pictures ever - Jim Aparo drew an amazing Hawkman and I wish he had gotten the opportunity more often.
There was just the one Batman-Hawkman The Brave and the Bold Team-up, right? I checked out a copy from my library and Bruce and Katar look almost like twins!
ReplyDeleteHa! Great cover!
I think he appeared at least 3 times, maybe 4
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the 'What If?' stories that had Conan visit a version of Marvel's then-'Modern' era...
ReplyDeleteI know the issue where you took the image from & I gotta say: great job! As you mentioned, that had to be quite a headache, but it looks great (& creates a cover a story that I'd REALLY love to read).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Charles - Yeah, that was a great B&B issue!
ReplyDeleteThe work paid off...this one really came out looking awesome!
ReplyDeleteLooks almost like a Kubert Hawkman
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm! I wonder how Jim Aparo and Gardner Fox would've depicted Conan being brough to the 21st century? Accidentally teleported via the Fadeaway Man's Cloak of Cagliostro? Deliberate revivification, by the Matter Master, of Conan's fossilized skeleton? Or maybe even through Byth impersonating Dr. Doom just to get access to the time platfrom?
ReplyDeleteP.S.---How about a Ghost Rider/Phantom Stranger team-up?
ReplyDeleteCary - Like all requests - Maybe! No need to keep asking, I do read them all :)
ReplyDeleteWhew! Thanks. Good to know. :-)
ReplyDeleteRoss, despite your reply to Cary -- a fact that I already am aware of -- I still intend to occasionally mention my wish for an Ambush Bug/Wolverine team-up. #YesIAmANaughtyBoy
ReplyDeleteCary and Bob, you may not realise this, but while other blog readers enjoy reading your comments, we do get bored seeing the same requests repeated multiple times.
ReplyDeleteRoss does a fantastic job with this blog, and much as we'd all like to see our ideas come to life, it is important to remember that every cover we see is a gift to us that we should appreciate. Ross has said he reads everything. Let's not keep asking "but why not my request".
@IdeasMan2---OK, then. Why not MY request, then?
ReplyDelete:P
Thanks, Anon! Couldn't have said it better, myself.
