The Hulk and The Creeper

SPOILERS below for folks not caught up on The Hulk's current activities in the Marvel Universe

Well, it seems that every in Marvel comics crossover event there has to be at least one shocking death, and this time Bruce Banner's number has come up.  Yes, to prevent a psychic prediction of The Hulk losing control coming true, Hawkeye killed Banner with an arrow to the head.  Yeah, I know there's still the new young hip Amadeus Cho Hulk running around, but I am still skeptical about how long this death will last.  I'm guessing that by the time Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters, there will be a comic cover featuring a big green fist punching out of a grave.

  1. Great cover Ross. I don't agree with your prediction, though. Marvel seems hellbent on making the status quo in the comics as different as possible from that in the movies. I don't understand their reasoning, but I'm not in their comics audience anymore.

  2. I'm all for diversity. I think both Marvel and DC want to create a Universe where "anything" can happen; with unlimited possibilities.

    Create new heroes.

I lost interest in the Big Two when they wouldn't stop making with the Big Mega Crossovers. I got Event Fatigue. It seems that every Big Event starts with a Hit List for characters. I think I pretty much threw my hands up after Infinite Crisis and Secret War.

    1. Then don't read them, it's that simple - I haven't read a DC "Mega Event" ever.

I've only read Batman/Joker related ones (but still haven't read all of "Joker's Last Laugh").

The last "mega event" I read was "Age of Apocalypse". Prior to that I got "event fatigue" after "Mutant Massacre" & "Fall of the Mutants"

  3. Of course Bruce Banner will be back. Death is barely an inconvenience in comics anymore. Superman died. Wonder Woman died. Ben Grimm died. Johnny Storm died. Jean Grey died. Bucky died. Doesn't mean a damned thing.

I still think that these days, the movies are driving the comics. Hey, we know which are making millions and millions of dollars, and which are a dying, outmoded medium.

  4. Can't stomach the "the new young hip Amadeus Cho"? Does that make him the Inedible Hulk?

  5. The only people in the Marvel Universe who've stayed dead, all this time, are Richard and Mary Parker (Spidey's parents). At one time, that seemed to get ret-conned. But, it turned out to be an elaborate ruse cooked up by the Chameleon!

Bruce Banner will ultimately be back as the Hulk, Steve Rogers as Capt. America, Donald Blake as the mighty Thor, etc. etc. etc. Marvel not eventually doing that would be like DC not publishing a new "Crisis" mini-series every ten years.

    "Never gonna happen."

  6. Don't forget Rodney "War Machine" was also killed first and he will definitely be in next Avengers movie.

Marvel is determined to create "families" for each character since their attempt to replace characters with younger mix of more ethnic characters failed. They will continue to mess up characters the Marvel way until every main character belongs in jail or asylum.

  7. How about a team-up of the CREEPER and the PROWLER?

  8. This cover, with it title "Who Broke Manhattan?", made me think of the line "Hulk Hears A Who".

  9. I got event fatigue after the increasingly misnamed "Final Crisis."
