Mister Miracle and Iron Man

One of my favorite things to doodle when I was a kid (after super-heroes, of course) was death traps and dungeons.  I was very inspired by the classic horror movies that would play on local TV's Creature Double Feature.  In the comics, nobody came up with better dungeons, death traps and weapons of mass destruction than the king himself, Jack Kirby.  That's one of the many reasons his work on Mister Miracle still stays with me.

  1. Nicely done! Maybe you can do a Big Barda-She Hulk cover, too!

  2. Excellent rendering, Ross! Mr. Kurtzenberg would be proud. :-)

  3. Until seeing this, I never noticed the incredible similarity in the color schemes of these two characters. I wonder if there might be a story there for a future team-up.

As for this cover, Ross, I can only echo what RJ and Cary said.

I was about to make the same comment. Anyone know which costume is older, and by how much?

  5. I thought exactly the same thing. Looking into it, it seems this colour scheme was first used by iron man in 1963, nearly a decade before Mr. Miracle was first published in 1971. Thanks, Internet.

  6. Did you ever see any of the 'Grimtooth's Traps' books that were published by Flying Buffalo? They were initially for that company's own RPG, 'Tunnels and Trolls', but could be adapted for other uses as well.

  7. I heartily endorse the Grimtooth's Traps series. Especially the second volume. #ShamelessPlug
