Snoopy and The Rocketeer

I watched The Peanuts Movie, and I thought it was great.  I loved the blending of CGI animation with Charles Schulz' classic character designs and visually everything looked amazing, the best of the old and the new styles.  The story was fulled with heart and humor and really made me root for Charlie Brown.  The main plotline is interspersed with an action thriller featuring Snoopy vs. the Red Baron which was a blast.  If you have kids or were a fan of Peanuts when you were a kid yourself, I highly recommend a viewing.

  1. How about an Aquaman / Sea Devils team up. I know they are both dc, but I don't remember them ever teaming up. I always thought they should have.

  3. Inspired by your recent covers with cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse and Birdman, and now Snoopy, what do you think of a cover with Selma, Velma, Wilma and Elmer (the Simpsons, Scooby Doo, the Flintstones and Bugs Bunny)?

Although on second thoughts maybe a double feature would be better, with the first three joining the Birds of Prey while Elmer Fudd goes after the Marvel Bunny!

  5. I would buy this comic just for "Judgement of the Great Pumpkin."

Regarding Ideas Man's suggestion of Selma, Velma, Wilma, and Elmer, somehow I'd expect them to be chased by Pac-Man.

  9. @Ideas Man 2: How about Usagi Yojimbo vs. Elmer Fudd...as "Wambo?" *

*Imagine a bare-chested Elmer wearing nothing but a head band, camouflage pants and army boots. I saw a vintage T-shirt with that decal in a pop culture shop (LOL)!

  10. Big fan of Peanuts, didn't like the new comics. I keep hearing nothing but good about the movie, kept close to Schulz but using the modern technology well to bring it to life. I have the dvd, will now put it to the top of my stack!
You did a good job of combining the images here, and the idea of Spectre and Great Pumpkin in the same story really works here, with the Hembeck style!
I think I like most of the suggestions listed here for the cartoon characters, but combining a cartoon character with a serious character (especially a scary one) seems a bigger challenge with more of an impact.
Thanks for including Snoopy again, and the reminder of a highly respected Rocketeer.

  11. @Paul Green: Oh, I don't know. I think WB's animated Batman, fighting crime alongside Disney's Darkwing Duck, would make a great cover!

  12. And, no, Ross: I respectfully hasten to point out that that's the Michael Keaton-armored Batman you previously depicted with DW. I'm referring to the Kevin Conroy-voiced cartoon character. ;-)

  13. Paul Green, you mean like the Green Lantern Corps vs. the Pink Panther and Snagglepuss. Exit, Strange Light.

Chip and Dale would also be very good with a particularly scary super villain.

Back around 2000, DC published a 4-issue limited series in which the JLA had to team up with a bunch of Loony Tunes characters (whom they declared to be honorary JLA members.... and yes, I think that [pre-Flashpoint] this series was canonically part of mainstream continuity!)... including Daffy, as 'the Duck Knight'.
