Howard the Duck and Mickey Mouse

I have really been enjoying the new Mickey Mouse shorts that have been appearing  for the last few years.  Artist and director Paul rudish has given the character and his world a visual overhaul which is a modern take that still hearkens back to the very earliest Mickey cartoons.  Mickey was never my favorite of the Disney characters, but these new shorts are making me rethink that position.

  1. I wonder if they'll meet Mr. Sinister of Earth-979 and/or Grant Morrison's Animal Man on the other side of that wall?*

*A little something for all you ComiCon-er's to google in between cosplays at San Diego. ;-)

  2. Given that the House of Mouse has owned Marvel for years now, this could be a very visible team-up.

  3. That was fast. Sonofjack suggested this match less than a fortnight ago. Was this cover already in the works?

  6. When I saw this cover I thought, "I'm sure he had this planned before I made my comment." Thanks, Anonymous, for asking the question because I'm sure I never would have. And, Ross, what can i say? I'm humbled....

  7. I didn't know that Mickey was getting new shorts. It's nice to see that they fit. #BadPunNoCookie

Either way, it's a really cool cover. (Of course, what's behind that wall is us.) And seeing this suggestion of Sonofjack's gives me hope for someday actually seeing the Wolverine/Ambush Bug team-up I've been wanting for the last couple of years now. ;)

  8. May I suggest a Gambit / Avengers ( John Steed & Mrs. Peel) team-up ?

  9. I was never a big Mickey Mouse guy (I always preferred Bugs Bunny), but those new cartoons are awesome. My daughter loves them, too.

  11. @Anonymous: maybe Ross can make it up to him by depicting a team-up between Destroyer Duck and the $6,000,000.00 Man!

I can just picture the tag-line on the cover.

"They Must Save The Day By Fair Means...Or Fowl."

  12. How about a team of 4th wall breakers that must deal with a threat that none of the other heroes realize is happening?

  13. I love that you used the classic Howard. This is kind of a slap in the face to Disney considering what they did to Marvel in the '70's concerning Howard.

  14. I thought it was Lucasfilm that did the big-budget flop in the early Eighties. But, either way, I've heard it said that Steve Gerber considered the film's box office failure to be poetic justice for what he accused _Marvel_ of doing to the comic book Howard in the Seventies!

  15. @Caryhage Killingbeck: You are correct, sir!

@Giulio: I get it! But I don't know if many other people will.

  18. A Marvel/Disney mashup I'd like to see: Howard the Duck and Squirrel Girl visit Zootopia.
