Hawkman and Birdman in "Earning Your Wings"

Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law made me laugh a lot - but I have to admit that I am happy that a more serious version of the character is back in Future Quest.  I took the cartoons very seriously when I saw them as a kid, so I have always thought of Birdman as a hero first and foremost.

Birdman has also met with the Silver Age Hawkman...

  1. I thought Harvey Birdman and Space Ghost Coast To Coast were both travesties and disrespectful to the original characters and their creators.

  2. I love the composition of this cover.

I was also very pleased with the first issue of Future Quest. I'm looking very forward to what comes next.

And, John Small, I agree with you 100%.

  3. I also agree on Coast to Coast, yet I still love the Adam West Batman! Maybe the humor and talents were just better then.
Good cover, nice to see Golden Age heroes sometimes. Their team ups with Silver Age counterparts were always my favorite stories, especially with the Flashes.

  4. I was a big fan of SPACE GHOST as a kid, so when that Coast to Coast show came on I thought it was a waste of time and couldn't figure out why people actually thought it was funny.

  5. Me neither, Wolfhammer.

But, I did figure out a reason why Avenger was always animated as blue even though he was supposed to be a _golden_ eagle. It also explained why Avenger always had strength enough to haul a shade-weakened Birmdan back up to the sunlight.

He had been genetically engineered with blue whale DNA!

  6. Always did love the yellow-mask for the Golden Age Hawkman.

  7. Future Quest is actually the first time that I'd seen Birdman, apart from one or two previous appearances in STF, but he does seem an interesting character and -- especially with the Ancient Egypt connection -- an obvious one to team with the Golden Age Hawkman.
Maybe he might also be called on to work with Dr Fate, at a point when Hawkman was unavailable?

  8. Birdman ought to team up with the Falcon - they both have bird companions and not only Birdman and Falcon could be in conflict but so can their companions.

  9. There's a Birdman/Falcon/Dr. Mid-Nite cover on here

  10. Thinking further, one could put together a rather powerful team just using heroes with links to Ancient Egypt _

Birdman; [Golden Age] Hawkman & Hawkwoman; [at least one version of] Dr Fate; Metamorpho (& Element Girl?); Blue Beetle [archaeologist Dan Garret, perhaps -- through the wonders of time travel -- bringing along one or both of his successors as well]; Black Adam [from one of his 'heroic' periods], perhaps with Isis and Osiris; the earlier version of Isis; Ibis the Invincible, and Taia; Prince Ra-Man; Scarlet Scarab [Marvel; created by Roy Thomas as a homage to the Blue Beetle; two Egyptian Egyptologists, father & son IIRC,empowered by a mystic scarab: the older one met the Invaders, the younger one made his debut by clashing with Thor while "retrieving" an Egyptian item (the scarab itself?) from a NYC museum and then had a few later appearances]; the Scarab [DC/Vertigo]; Horus [in Alan Moore's short-lived '1963' series, published by Image, a homage/parody of 1960s Marvel comics in which Horus was the 'Thor' equivalent]; and one or two of the Golden Age heroes , originally published by Nedor, whom Moore subsequently revived for use in his 'America's Best Comics' line and that have also been used by Dynamite Comics since then as well...

Who have I missed out of that list? Anybody?

Arragh! How could I have forgotten about Moon Knight? Add him to the list, too, of course.
    Now, anybody else?
