I remember with fondness DC's experiment with
Action Comics Weekly. While the decision to relegate Superman to a two-page story every week was an odd one, the rest of the features were filled with some real gems. I remember really digging Wild Dog and Secret Six, two features I probably never would have sampled on my own. Another find was Howard Chaykin's take on Blackhawk. I loved the artwork and personality makeover that he gave the lead character, and wasn't surprised to see an ongoing series spring out of it.
This won't mean anything to anyone outside Australia, but Airhawk would be a good addition to this team. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Hawk_and_the_Flying_Doctors
ReplyDeleteRoss, I think the Blackhawk ongoing series was a result of the success of Howard Chaykin's deluxe format 4 issue mini-series. It was fantastic, and took place during the early cold-war era.
ReplyDeleteYes, good stuff!
ReplyDeleteI wonder who would bring these two together? Maybe that Axis aviatrix known to Airboy as the Valkyrie?
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea for a team-up. I'm a big fan of the World War II era heroes. I would love to see an issue in which Airboy becomes an honorary Blackhawk.
ReplyDeleteI's also love to see The Boy Commandos team-up with Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos . . . .
How does the Rocketeer keep from scorching his boots when he bends h is back like that?
ReplyDeleteMake the skies great again!
ReplyDeleteThe original 1968 Secret Six by E. Nelson Bridwell is one of my all-time favorite comic book series. I found the Action Comics Weekly sequel to be entirely forgettable in comparison.

ReplyDeleteCan we see Batman & Emma Frost?
ReplyDelete@Doc OTR: with great difficulty? ;-)
