When Patron of this blog Adam Stockman suggested that I use The Mighty Heroes on a cover, it was a real blast from the past - I hadn't thought about these guys in years! I watched a few episodes on Youtube to refresh my memories and they came flooding back. I especially remember liking Rope Man when I was a kid. I still think that Diaper Man is a little creepy though.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Rope Man being rather cool. As a Champions player I was occasionally tempted to create a PC based on him, but I never got around to it. It's too bad it's just not possible with Champions Online. (Nor do I expect a similar character would ever appear in the Marvel, DC, or other comic universes, with the emphasis on believability. A guy whose entire body is made of rope? Seriously?)
ReplyDeleteThe one that always bothered me, though, was Cuckoo Man. Having him with this group seemed a bit like admitting Merryman to the Justice League (or, in this blog, to the Avengers).
For some reason, after reading only one comic of Mighty Heroes I liked Rope Man best! Glad these guys got another appearance after all these years!
ReplyDeleteAnd Harlem Globetrotters also should find someone to team with. I always liked their cartoon and thought their team up with Scooby Doo was great!
Even as a Groo-like version of himself, it would have been more ruthlessly efficient for JD to use Rope Man to tie up Strongman! No way the former would've risked injuring the former by breaking free.

ReplyDeleteThis was NOT in syndication in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut area. I have no recollection of it, and i was a little tv addict! Did you watch this on local Massachusetts/Boston television, Ross?

ReplyDelete@tron: it was definitely telecast in Northwest Connecticut in the late Sixties/early Seventies. Occasionally, on Old Channel 5 (Metromedia Television, NYC) or Channel 8 (WTNH, New Haven). With Bob McAllister and "Mr. Goober," respectively.
