I have read reports that The Russo Brothers are eager to use Thor in
Avengers: Infinity War due to what they explain as the interesting place that the character will be following the events of
Thor: Ragnarok. This is purely speculation, but maybe Thor will finally be taking his place as the ruler of Asgard. If that is the case, I hope his helmet will finally officially become part of his outfit!
Well, I don't know what Avengers: Infinity War or Thor: Ragnarok might be, but Thor's helmet was always part of his costume for issue one, from what I saw.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I don't bother with comic books nowadays, because they do inane stuff like having to explain "why Thor has long hair!" like anybody cares.
I remember the "mysteries of Wolverine revealed!" and it was nonsense like why he wears an eyepatch, why he smoked a cigar and why he wore a cowboy hat (if anybody recalls that era of Wolverine).
I gather Thor's helmet has probably been dropped because Hemsworth doesn't wear one in the movies.
Richard Fuller- Avengers; Infinity War and Thor: Ragnarok are upcoming movies, not comic books. In the movies, Thor was briefly scene in his helmet in the first movie, and that was about it.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of classic Thor and the 4th Doctor teaming up. This is one of the ones I'd really, really want to read.
To paraphrase a quote from the Doctor Who series: What's he going to do? Assemble a cabinet at them?
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Tom's period on the show expanded the functions of the sonic screwdriver somewhat, to the point that producer John Nathan-Turner worked it out of the show because it was becoming too much like a "magic wand." Still, compared to what it's been doing the past decade, its functions were pretty limited and meager. What that tool will be used for that could be done by few if any other devices would make for an interesting reveal at this story's climax.
PS: Alaric, I think you mean that Thor was briefly seen. :)
Bob- Oops!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping "Thor: Ragnarok" will include an adaptation of the Black Valkyrie story arc. Maybe featuring Jennifer Conelly as the Asgardian femme fatale in question!
ReplyDeleteAs for a team-up with the Fourth Doctor? I'm hoping it would be motivated by the unexpected return of Sutekh; an overdue reunion with Nyssa; or, best of all, a little bit of both.
P.S. @ Richard Fuller: I think what Ross was referring to was a lack of Thor's winged comic book helmet within the last two Hemsworth movies. If memory serves, the last time the latter was faithfully rendered on the silver screen was as something worn by a tomboyish preteen in MISADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING (starring the actress who replaced Claudia Wells as Michael J. Fox's girlfriend in B.T.T.F's II and III).
ReplyDeleteWell THOR is a female these days and will probably be a black transgender soon. Gotta keep those social justice warriors happy!
ReplyDelete@Wolfhammer: Don't you mean, "trans-Jenner?"
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though: your announcement is the first I've heard of such a thing! First, Loki. Now, Thor? The last time time I ever heard of that gimmick being used was back in the 1970's...as part of the "WHAT IF...?" line of comics!
Cary - I don't think the Fourth Doctor would be reuniting with Nyssa, as she only showed up for the last two stories of his tenure, being present when he regenerated and then leaving about a season and a half later. Sutekh's return, though, would be an interesting story, and one right up Thor's alley (or at least the next alley over).
ReplyDeleteThese trends started back in the 90's with NORTH STAR of ALPHA FLIGHT being gay and has hit a fever pitch now. You already know about NICK FURY. The QUESTION was a strait white male, but now is a Hispanic lesbian who is dating BATWOMAN. The golden-age STARMAN has been re-written as homosexual. It goes on and on...
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with creating new characters of various races and sexual persuasions, but I wish they would leave the old characters alone.
There had already been occasional hints abut Northstar since the early issues of Alpha Flight's series, about a decade earlier.
ReplyDeleteIt was the Golden Age GREEN LANTERN who got re-written not the Starman, and that was only after the 'Flashpoint' event had written both the lesbian Question and that GL's own son OBSIDIAN (who had been revealed as gay a few years earlier) out of existence: DC management felt that they couldn't get rid of two homosexual characters without creating at least one replacement, and so merged that aspect of Obsidian into the re-written version of his former father...
@Bob Greenwade: I think what Carycomic was referring to was Nyssa's departure from the series during the 5th Doctor era. She stayed behind on a derelict hospital ship with a bipedal canid named Garm(!) to find a cure for some kind of space leprosy. And, I.I.R.C., Garm's former masters were an extinct race called the Aesir!
ReplyDeleteNyssa might go back in time to help Thor and the 4th Doctor against Sutekh. Perhaps as an operative of the Celestial Intervention Agency!
@Anonymous: Well, you're half-right. Garm's enslavers were called the Vanir!
ReplyDeleteWell, over one year later, and half my wish came true.
ReplyDeleteThe Valkyrie character in THOR: RAGNAROK was dressed in black.
