I have read a few rumors that Howard the Duck will be showing up again in
Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. While still a small role, it should be larger than the post credits cameo that appeared after the first film. I hope this speculation turns out to be true - I love that Marvel is willing to embrace somie of its more outlandish concepts for their film universe.
I got into Howard just as his first color comic was ending. I really enjoyed his b/w magazine that ran a few years.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see classic Howard again. I miss that look for the character. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI felt like that cameo appearance at the end of GUARDIANS was Marvel's way of making a point about how confident in the success of their current movies they are, considering that Howard was the star of a movie that bombed famously. It's like they were saying, "if we wanted to, we could even do a new Howard the Duck movie and it would be a success."
Does anybody else here remember the time in one of Marvel's comics when Howard had a nightmare about fighting Martians after reading some work that a friend of Bev's was working on for the in-universe version of that company's series 'Killmallard. Warrior of the Worlds'?
ReplyDelete^_^
Howard had to change his look since Disney sued Marvel. Now that Disney owns Marvel, there is no reason Howard can't go back to his old look.
ReplyDeleteI thought it would be cool to see Howard visit the Disney universe with his jaundiced view of reality.
Snapper Carr- I suspect Disney has just decided on principle that they don't want Howard to look like that, regardless of who owns him, unfortunately.

ReplyDeleteSimreeve-
I think that was Howard the Duck #2 (or maybe 3?)
Snapper's idea of Howard visiting Disney is interesting. I know Howard met Donald (as "Super Donald") as well as Darkwing Duck and a couple of others back in STF #336, but Donald in his regular guise, or perhaps a one-on-one team-up with Darkwing, could have some interesting possibilities.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, what if Howard were to team up with (the original) Captain Marvel's friend Tawky Tawny?
Howard and Tawky Tawny's a great idea!
ReplyDeleteTawky Tawny is slated for an appearance soon - With a famous animal.. but it isn't Howard...

Tigger?
Perhaps even within an all-tiger team?
You're closer... Hint: it's a back-up story, not the main feature...
ReplyDeleteThis is good. For a follow up, maybe Howard turns to Captain Marvel Bunny or Krypto the Superdog for help. I also like the idea that Bob Greenwade has in letting Mr. Tawny in there.
ReplyDeleteI think I know who Talky Tawny will be teaming up with, but I don't want to ruin it for others. Email me if you are so inclined, Ross, so I can tell you my guess in private....
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love, love, love this cover!
You can privately message me using the email address in the "about me" link on this page.
ReplyDeleteLet me guess: Howard organizes a resistance movement after escaping a Martian-run gladiatorial arena where he was known as...
ReplyDelete...Killduck!
Great cover Wally Wood EC comics rip off bubble gum card characters made into cheesy movie meets spectacularly failed comic duck movie.
ReplyDeleteI think I know who Tawky Tawny's teaming up with, too. At least, I have an idea that makes sense. It's a character who's appeared here a number of times, if I'm right.
ReplyDeleteHave you done any of the Atlas characters, the '75 titles that pretty much only ran three issues? Some ran four.
ReplyDeleteI tracked down virtually all the books about a year or so ago and it was like finding lost Marvels, they imitated Marvel comics so much.
And I really don't know which ones would be worth using. Tiger Man may be the only snazzy one who'd work with someone else, appearance-wise.
Great cover, and I hope we do see more of Howard in future. It'd be nice to see him redeemed from his own disaster of a movie.
ReplyDeleteI have a suggestion as well: a team-up of the Power Pack and Power Rangers. I'm not sure if the Rangers have ever been featured here (I looked through a lot of the back catalog and didn't see anything, but I could've missed them), but I've always felt they and the Pack shared some similarities. They're both groups of young people given powers by an alien figure (Zordon and Whitey), both groups have the "similar outfits, but with different colors" going on, and they both tend to have some crazy, unusual adventures. A team up between them just makes sense to me, and it'd be really cool to see.
I never read any of the Atlas comics, so I don't know much about them - I remember thinking Skateman was a crazy concept...
ReplyDeleteHaven't used Power Rangers either, but pairing them with Power Pack does have potential...
That's fantastic news about Tawky Tawny. I've been hoping he'll appear. And I can also think of a few characters who are likely to be with him.
ReplyDeleteI suspect a few people are guessing a character like Tigra to meet Mr. Tawky Tawny. But Ross did say he was meeting a famous ANIMAL. Who do you think Ross should match with Mr. TT if he ever gets a cover rather than backup feature?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous- Can't speak for anyone else, but the character I'm thinking of isn't a superhero.

1/ Hoppy the Marvel Bunny
2/ Winnie the Pooh
I wasn't even thinking about who ol' Tawk might appear with when I suggested Atlas' Tiger Man.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have a clue who would look good with Tawk. I like the Tigger suggestion.
How about Hobbes from Calvin and, Tony the Tiger, Battlecat from HeMan? Haha!
I had actually thought of one more, but now I've forgotten it.
What was the Thundercat? Tigra? Tie-gra pronounced.

DeleteI think you're talking about Tygra from ThunderCats as the last one you were thinking of, right?
DeleteYea, Tygra, then. It was never seen in writing and obviously it would have looked like Tigra, the were-woman, from Marvel.
ReplyDeleteHey, there's also Tigorr from the Omega Men, but who remembers him today?

Probably most of the people who visit this site on a fairly regular basis?
Howard's on the "attack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack"!
