I was a big fan of the many
DC Nation animated shorts from a few years back. It was great to see features like Doom Patrol, Sword of the Atom, Animal Man and the Metal Men, even if only for a few minutes at a time. One of the best examples was
Super Best Friends Forever, a fun take on Batgirl, Supergirl and Wonder Girl. I liked that it showed that heroes come in all shapes and sizes and emphasized their camaraderie. It's too bad that these shorts have been discontinued, I would have like to have seen them continue and grow.
...but on the upside, it's a credit that we remember the DC animated shorts long after they ran!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check that one out. (I hadn't even heard of it until now.) The ones I've seen are excellent; I really enjoyed that take on Amethyst!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat as Linneman. These shorts must have been part of Sunday night "Adult Swims" for me to have never heard of them! Either that; or they were produced for pay-cable TV, only.
ReplyDeleteEither way, their version of Batgirl looks like the female equivalent of Filmation's Bat-mite!
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Awesome! Great idea! Great execution! Great title! Even a great title font! This cover rates an eleven out of ten!!!
I consider those shorts lazy, missed opportunities. So much potential to be feature length, or at least a half hour, because young people's (and now grown ass adults, for that matter) attention spans have become minimal to ZERO, we have 2/3 minute shorts. It is so absurd that this form animation is the new normal. It's crap!
