Doc Savage Vs. Vandal Savage



When longtime Lost Issues visitor Isaac suggested this match up yesterday, I had to smack my head for never thinking of it myself. Obviously, many story possibilities present themselves when one considers the shared surname. This one was going to nag at me until I gave it a shot, so I decided to just go ahead and create a cover right away.  Thanks for the idea, Isaac!

    I enjoyed Vandal Savage's TV debut this week on Flash/Arrow and look forward to more of him when Legends of Tomorrow debuts.

    I thank Isaac, as well, for his brilliant suggestion. And I thank you, Ross, for so promptly expediting it! As an on-again/off-again aficionado of the Wold Newton Universe (inspired by the works of the late, great Philip Jose' Farmer), I've always wondered what would happen if the Kuvuru-immortalized Doc Savage met another immortal, of even older vintage, from one of the mainstream comics.

    You've now answered that question, brilliantly! :-)

    Given that Vandal has had a number of children over the centuries, this is not an impossible scenario. Scandal Savage, Vandal's daughter, was a great addition to the DC universe in the Secret Six series done by Gail Simone prior to the New 52 reboot.

    This is a great combo -- even the name logos work well together! I hope we get to revisit it from time to time.

    Speaking of revisiting, are there any further Robo-Force or Power Man/Power Girl covers in the pipeline?

    Now let's add in Matt Savage, Trail Boss; King Savage, and His Name is... Savage. Maybe the Savage Dragon. Oh, and might as well toss in talk-radio host Michael Savage, while we're at it. Just need a good team name...

    I was thinking the title was "Death in Silver" but it's been a long time.

    This is brilliant! Not just the names, but Vandal Savage would be a perfect villain for Doc.

    Other Bob's suggestion of combining so many people with the surname of Savage has sent "The Savage Family" running through my head (to the tune of the "Addams Family" theme). I'll post lyrics here if any come to me. :)
