Sherlock Holmes and Detective Chimp

I am a huge fan of Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, and I am looking forward to finally seeing it return at the end of the year,  even if only for a single special.  Both actors are understandably in demand these days, and while I am a fan of Star Trek and Doctor Strange as well, I do wish they had time to work on more episodes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famed sleuth.

  1. What are your thoughts on elementary? I like both shows.

  2. It's Sherlock Holmes so I watch it, but I far prefer Cumberbatch or Jeremy Brett.

  3. Don't you mean The Hobbit as well? Cumberbatch was Smaug opposite Freeman's Bilbo Baggins...from Bag End. ;)

  4. I wish someone would collect the original Detective Chimp series from the 1950s, when Bobo didn't talk or wear clothes, but was just the precocious pet of a Florida sheriff. I've only read two of those stories, but I thought they were funny -- and Carmine Infantino said that it was his favorite series to draw.

  5. I think that if this team-up were done for real, the premise would be Grodd using his Silver Age astral projection power to somehow take over Moriarty's body in the past, as a part of some convoluted attempt to eliminate Bobo's inspiration the hard way! With the Detective Chimp, of course, going back in time to prevent that via Per Degaton's old (confiscated) time machine.

Why would Grodd go to so much trouble? Well, maybe it would have something to do with the LOEG's first encounter with the "Martians" that invaded England in 1899. ;-)

  6. Yeah whatever happened to DC's Sherlock Holmes? Wasn't that a one shot back in the 70's? And whatever happened to E.R. Cruz?

  7. Maybe he's doing the artwork for a comic publisher back in his native Philippines?

  8. DC also used Sherlock Holmes in at least one early issue of Detective Comics, back before they introduced the Bat-Man...

... and one of the "anniversary" issues (#500?) in the 1970s or '80s had Holmes turn up to help Batman solve a case that had also featured both Slam Bradley and the Elongated Man..

    ^_^
