Gamora and The Martian Manhunter

It has been reported that David Goyer has expressed a reticence to use The Martian Manhunter in the the DC films because he feels like the character is too outlandish to work onscreen.  I hope those sentiments were put to rest once Guardians of the Galaxy became a smash hit.  That film froved that a green skinned alien would work just fine... right alongside a talking raccoon and tree creature, to boot! Let's get with the program, DC execs!

  1. Didn't Gamorra and J'onn J'onzz work together before? As part of the Green Team (or whatever you may have called it)?

  2. No, Gamora was not part of The Emerald Elite.

  4. David Goyer is the reason I'm reading the latest Martian Manhunter comic book. I'm disappointed by his comments. It gives an indication that Warner Bros. and DC just don't understand these characters the way they used to.

  5. While not totally true to the source material, the Smallville adaptation of Martian Manhunter was OK.

  6. I'm reluctant to say that David Goyer doesn't understand what his audience wants. But he doesn't understand (and/or care) what I want. Neither do Geoff Johns and Jim Lee, for that matter. That's OK, if they don't want my business anymore, that's their prerogative. But I do miss the DC universe.

  7. I'm with you Bob Buethe. I tried to follow the Justice League when the New 52 began. All of the characters except the Flash seemed like big jerks to me . . . . I used to love the DC universe and follow the characters because they were heroes. Now they seem like the kind of bullies that would stuff the weaker kids in their lockers in high school!

  8. Leaving aside everything else that the Martian Manhunter has going for him, which is a lot, he's one of only two beings who have been allowed to return after getting past the Source Wall...
    Now THAT is awesome!

  9. @Simreeve: The other one being the Flash, in this issue -- unless there's a third being that I don't know about.

  10. Ah, I didn't know about the Flash (presumably Barry Allen?) doing that as well: The other person whom I knew to have been allowed to return was Courtney Whitmore (whom I think might still have been [the second] Star-Spangled Kid at that point, rather than Stargirl) in the same story as MM. This was in #19 of the 'Martian Manhunter' series that started in 1998...
