Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Universe

I have to admit, when I first heard that Marvel was bringing us a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, I was hoping for these guys.  I of course loved what we got in theaters, but it would still be cool to see some of the original team get a little cinematic exposure.  Sure, we had Yondu - but he wasn't very close to the classic character that I knew from the comics.

  1. I would have settled for Valentino's line up from the 90's which was the originals plus a few new ones as well. I enjoyed that run.

  2. I never read the original Guardians of the Galaxy, but I remember seeing their first appearance in Marvel Super-Heroes on the racks, and thinking that Martinex and Vance Astro looked like cool characters.

  3. I was a fan of both sets of Guardians of the Galaxy, and really enjoyed the movie, too. I think that the movie company chose well that time. I do wish that Marvel had also made a Invaders World War II movie with the android Human Torch, Sub-Mariner and several other Golden Age characters, but the Captain America movies didn't allow for that. Major bummer. I think it would have turned out well for them if they had.

  4. @Ross- I thought the same thing, Well, with the GL reboot we'll get more guardians I hope. @ Anonymous - Marvel doesn't have the rights to Subbie as he's owned by Universal (same as the Hulk. Now that's a team-up I'd pay to see.) but they hinted at the Android Torch so who knows?

  5. @ Ross and Ordinaryguy2:

I, personally, would love to see a GOTG sequel where the line-up from the first movie (based on the team from the modern comics) meets the line-up from the 1960's comic. As part of a time-travel epic a la X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST! Of course, it's the Badoon, not the Sentinels, who would be the Bad Guys trying to keep their conquest of Earth from getting ret-conned. And the McGuffin that would make such a thing possible?

How about two surprise guest-stars? A German-speaking one, who teleports via "bamf;" and another one who rides a silver surfboard!

  6. I simply adore the original Guardians and as you say we did get an entertaining but decidedly different Yondu. Charlie-27 would be awesome and Martinex would be fun.

  7. I loved the 1990s Guardians of the Galaxy series. And I'm forever mixing up these two names when chatting. Great team-up idea!!
