The Creature Commandos from Weird War Tales was one of those concepts that pulled from multiple genres - superhero, war and horror - and somehow worked for me. I liked them even better when the G.I. Robot joined their ranks. They may not have had the name recognition of some other groups, but they were definitely one of the cooler looking teams out there.
I'm sure there's a HOWLING commandos joke in there somewhere!
ReplyDeleteActually, Ivan, that's one of the last things Marvel ripped--plagiari-- I mean, pastiched ("Yeah, that's the ticket!") from DC before the former's current "Battleworld" story arc.
ReplyDeleteAs in; Marvel's Bronze Age HC's were thinly-disguised imitations of the Creatures Commandos.
ReplyDeleteI didn't read much of their early adventures I only read the ending where they were lost in space but I did read their revival in the mid-2000's and their appearance in Superman during the Krypton War and I liked them

ReplyDeleteNot trying to be a DC fanboy, but I wonder if the Anonymous calling DC's Creature Commandos a ripoff has ever noted the great differences between the original Howling Commandos and their post-Creature Commandos version...
