Batman and Daredevil in: "Night of the Owls"
Well, after months of teasing, some clear and unobstructed pictures of Ben Affleck as Batman have surfaced. I have to say, I love what I see. The costume is closer to the comics than any that we have seen thus far. It has been promised that Batman will have full freedom of movement as well, so I can't wait to see the suit in action. I personally prefer longer ears on Batman, but given the Dark Knight vibe they seem to be going for with the new look I can live with the shorter ones. I still wish there was a way that the designers could have given Batman the white eyes from the comics.
This is a more modern pairing of Batman and DD - bur back in my Brave and the Bold: The Lost Issues! days, I presented them together in a Bronze Age adventure as well as a Silver Age one...
Great cover!
ReplyDeleteAs a counter-point, I've always found that smaller points on Batman's cowl were best. Maybe that's from the Adam West years. I like Aparo's cowl, but there was a version where the points were ridonkulously long. Not sure who's art that was. Maybe "Red Rain"?
I think we all grew up with the white eyes, but Alex Ross makes a good argument that Batman is much more scary when you can see his eyes. Not sure I agree with that, though.
I'm still not sold on this film. The more that's said about it the less interested I am. Cavill says it's not a sequel to Man of Steel. If it's more destruction porn...I was disappointed by The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel. I liked both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight - except for Harvey Dent's fate...
I can see it, now. Leland Owlsley (David Warner), working for the Court of Owls, hires Korean brainwasher Dr. Moon (Soon Tek Oh) to turn Batman (Ben Affleck) into their newest Talon. And only Daredevil (Affleck's real-life brother) can save the day!
ReplyDeleteRated PG-13.
I liked the first (actual) Batman/Daredevil cross-over (Excellent Scott McDaniels art....) but this cover looks much better than the second crossover Marvel and DC put out.
ReplyDeleteThat might be so, my worthy namesake. But, the story of the 2nd actual crossover was undeniably far superior to the plot of the first!
ReplyDelete@AirDave: you're thinking of Kelley Jones, who not only did "Red Rain" and "Dark Joker" Elseworlds OGN, but also the series "Batman" for about three years in the 90's. I'm partial to Adams/Aparo/Davis length ears.
