Aquaman and Captain Nemo



I've been meaning to use an image from Classics Illustrated for the longest time, and I finally got around to it.We had a bunch of those comics in my family when I was growing up and they did just what they were supposed to - get us kids interested in some great works of literature.  I remember reading some of them over and over, especially Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

    I loved those CI comics too, like the 3 Musketeers, Treasure Island & Marco Polo.
    Sadly, I neglected them once I discovered DC.
    It's good to see Comixology offering some of them. I've bought a few digitally and I really appreciate the excellent art this time around!

    My first and only Classics Illustrated comic was a reprint of Jack London's Call of the Wild! After that, I got a hold of the "abrıdged" novel for teens, and a year later I was reading the full on novel. Not bad for a 4th grader!

    I've got a bunch of the old CI issues. Actually used one to pass a semester exam on "A Tale Of Two Cities" my freshman year in high school. I just could not get into the book, and I read my dad's CI version the night before the test thinking I might at best pull off a C. Ended up getting the only A in that class and, according to the teacher, the first A she'd ever given for that particular exam in 10 years of teaching the class. I never told her how I did it.

    My favorite issue of CI was "White Fang." Although, I do remember reading the "20K Leagues Under The Sea" edition, as well. Still, I don't think my copy of the latter depicted Capt. Nemo as resembling John Carradine (lol)!

    The only one I has was when Marvel was doing them in the 70's and it was Robin Hood which was/is my favorite story.

    John Small, great story! I had (and still have) only four issues of the CI series: Robin Hood, The Three Musketeers, H.G.Wells' The Invisible Man, and The Jungle Book (Kipling's, not Disney's).
