Wonder Woman and Captain Britain

DC has released images of yet another new costume for Wonder Woman, and while most seem to like it, some have complained about the addition of strange hand spikes and the lack of skin showing.  Personally, I think it is a fine look.  Wonder Woman is one of those characters that I think would benefit from having multiple costumes anyway, depending on the event.  I don't mind when she switches to a skirt or wears a cape or extra armor on occasion.  As long as she has the trademark elements - tiara, bracelets, stars, eagle/WW and color scheme - I think it is cool for her to have a bunch of different looks.

  1. It used to be that superheroes had to have a consistent look for toy and product licensing. Now it seems that the more different looks a hero has, the more toys they can sell.

  2. I agree Wonder Woman should have battle armor and several different costumes, depending on the adventure. It's just a shame that no one has done anything with that idea. She's basically fighting crime in a bathing/swim suit - works for Namor doesn't it? Worked in 300, too...

Weren't superhero costumes originally based on circus strongman concepts?

Great cover by the way...but why is Diana cheating on Steve with Captain Britain?

  3. Nice to see The Fury on a cover - one of my favourite 'villains'.

    But speaking?

  4. This is the Earth-STF Fury, so it all makes sense.

  5. It does make sense for Wonder Woman to have many outfits. She is a woman, and like most women she should change her clothes and look often. Whereas I will wear the same pants 3 or 4 days in a row, but I'm a guy and that works for me.

  6. I do like WW's newest costume, for the most part. I do find the hand spikes a little off-putting, but she's a warrior so it's not exactly inconsistent with the character. The lack of skin showing is just plain silly at best, and sexist at worst.

Personally, my favorite of her costumes so far is the one with the jacket and black trousers.

I also agree that it makes sense for Wonder Woman to have multiple costumes for different situations, just as Batman has done on occasion (I don't know about currently). That's one thing that's always bothered me about most superheroes wearing the same outfit no matter what; wearing a spandex body stocking in a blizzard just doesn't seem all that smart, somehow (unless you're Kryptonian).

  7. Heh. When you talk about WW having multiple costumes, I envision Lynda Carter, spinning around, and suddenly she's in the regular costume, or the diving suit, and maybe there was some other one I've forgotten.

Envisioning Lynda Carter is not a bad thing! Thanks.

  8. Is that supposed to be the Fury (from the classic Alan Moore story arc in EXCALIBUR)? Or, one of Maxwell Lord's OMAC's from JLA? Because, I might be alone in this opinion. But, the latter did seem to bear a superficial resemblance to the former. Except, of course, the Fury never spoke. Not even in a Silver Age Cylon monotone!

The one in your depiction, however, could be General Eiling in a new host body. One far more counte-offensively versatitle than the Shaggy Man's synthetic corpus!

  9. Poor CB: maligned by Bendis in GotG and now rescued by WW. What a world, what a world.

  10. I note that Wonder Woman doesn't actually wear her country's colours. She always amused me because she was actually a spy pretending to be an American patriotic hero.
