Here's another suggestion from
Back Issue's Michael Eury, one that I thought was from left field until the last name connection was pointed out. Then I just had to give it a shot. I was very glad to hear that Harrison Ford is expected to make a full recovery following his recent plane crash. The only thing I want to see him piloting from now in is the Millennium Falcon!
Are you reading Marvel's new Star Wars? The art is pretty good; it has a very cinematic feel to it. I'm waiting for the first arc to conclude so I can read it all in one sitting.
ReplyDeleteThis may be an obvious piece of trivia, but Napoleon Solo was created by Ian Fleming. Solo appeared in Goldfinger.
Apparently there's a running gag on NCIS that "Ducky" looks like that guy from The Man From Uncle...
Hopefully the reboot film will be better than most remakes...
well, speaking about lost relatives, what about a Jim "Human Torch" Hammond versus Hector Hammond cover ? :D
ReplyDeleteSpeaking only for myself. I never considered either Han Solo or man from uncle as "super-heroes" and especially not a lot of the "cartoon" stuff you have posted lately. Looking forward to more solid super-hero teams for "Super-Team Family".
ReplyDeleteI like to present a mix as some others have complained that Superheroes every day get repetitious too. So while Superheroes will still make up the majority of characters who appear, there will be heroes from Sci-fi, movies, cartoons, TV, and anywhere else that inspires me as well. So, if you don't like a cover yo see today, don't worry - there will be a new one tomorrow that hopefully you will like better!
ReplyDeleteI understand. And I know many people like the non-super-hero covers and those that I think are "slightly silly". I appreciate the work you do and so many of your covers are so very good. Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteI still think you should check out the AC comic characters of the 80's & 90's - it would give you some good fresh super-hero material.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is I never read any of those AC characters and it's hard to make a cover not knowing anything about them.
ReplyDelete@Ross: Well, if somebody "just had to give it a shot", I'm glad it was you who shot first. Ahem.
ReplyDeleteNow, THIS team-up works! :-D
ReplyDeleteThe only way you could (possibly) surpass it? To have a shipwrecked Han Solo meet...Indiana Jones!!!!!
my 2 cents are about to weigh in.... personally i think todays cover with two generations of Solos is a well made classic, up there with your earlier Piccard & Xavier cover....
ReplyDeletehey Ross, has anyone suggested Nick Grimm from the NBC tv show and comic and the ever
lovin' blue-eyed Ben J. Grimm??? just a thought.... keep up the fun stuff, Ross...
later.... jack-el
Yeah, I've gotten that one before... but I have to confess i have never seen that show.
ReplyDelete"Nick Grimm" is actually Nick Burkhart. He's a Grimm, but that's not his name. Still, the name connection to Aunt Petunia's favorite nephew does exist, and it could warrant a visit.
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, this goes out to Michael: Brilliant idea.
And Ross: Brilliant execution, too!
The Han/Indy meetup has actually happened. One of the Dark Horse "what if" comics had a glitch in the Falcon's hyperdrive result in it reaching Earth, where Indy uncovered it... and Han's remains.

ReplyDeleteOh, well! [Insert "shrug" icon, here.]
