Red Tornado and Machine Man

I hope that the classic Red Tornado makes a return To the DCU after all of this Convergence business is done.  I understand that there is a Red Tornado in the New 52, as part of the Earth 2 series - but from what I have seen, it's some kind of alternate Lois Lane or something. I admit I haven't read anything with this new character, but it doesn't sound much like the robotic JLA member that I loved as a kid.

By the way, Red Tornado and Machine Man have a history in the pages of STF, as they are both members of Robo Force.

  1. I always liked the Red Tornado, but his powers confused me. Did he control air, or was he rotating parts of his body at super-speed to stir up the wind? Some of the images of him flying made it look like he had no legs at all, so maybe he transformed into air? I didn't get it.

BTW, I think I know what Machine Man is so upset about. He wants to post a comment on this blog, but he can't pass the "Please prove you're not a robot" test. Happy holidays!

  2. Red Tornado doesn't spin, he creates tornadoes that can surround parts of his body. Watching him in animated action on Justice League Ulimited, Batman: the Brave and the Bold and Young Justice gives a better idea of how his powers work than static comic book panels.

Be glad for the Robot test! These comments would be 90% spam otherwise! I did take out the second layer "type these characters", Hopefully the spam mers will stay away so I don't have to reinstate that again.

  3. Hey, I'm not complaining! it's a great anti-spam system.

I'll accept your explanation of how Reddy's powers work, but sometimes (like on the last image of this page, it's hard to figure out where his arms and legs are.

  4. It's nice to see Reddy back in place here. I hope you can have the whole of Robo-Force make a return as well (though I do understand that it would require an appropriate set of images, which can be kind of hard to pull together).

On an unrelated note, it just occurred to me that there might be some sort of familial relation between Jim Gordon and Flash Gordon. It's a thought, anyway. :)

  7. I always associate RT with he Vision because they both get called "android" but I think I like this pairing better.

Hmm... maybe they should meet Magnus, Robot Fighter some time.

  8. That alternate Lois Lane is probably a successor to her world's version of the Golden Age Red Tornado (ex-lady wrestler "Ma" Hunkle).
