Firestorm and The Avengers

The Avengers sequel sounds to be jam packed with Ultron and all the new team members joining the mix, but I have faith in Joss Whedon's ability to handle an ensemble cast.  It will be very cool to see Cap's Kooky  Quartet in live action (there's been behind the scenes footage of Captain America, Hawkeye, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch in a big scene together), something I never would have imagined decades ago reading those early adventures for the first time.  The new status quo as a result of the events in Captain America: The Winter Soldier also has me very curious as to how the Avengers will even still be assembling.  We're just about to begin the 2014  summer movie season and I am already looking forward to 2015!

  1. Love Mark Bagley's art! I need to re-read his Ultimate Spider-Man and DC's Trinity.

  2. Nice pairing! Didn't someone say that Firestorm is a Marvel character in the DC Universe anyway?

  3. DC and Marvel should work out a player swap: trade DC's Firestorm (who is totally a Marvel character) for Marvel's Jack of Hearts (who is totally a DC character).

  4. Wasn't Firestorm created by Gerry Conway? I thought he said that he created Firestorm because after working on Spider-Man, Peter Parker was moving away from high school and teenage years and Ronnie Raymond was a way to keep that theme going...

  5. just found this site. Love it! I see you have used Firestorm quite a bit so when are we going to see Firestorm and Jack of Heart (Perez has drawn both) team-up?

  6. Jack of hearts is tough, there aren't a ton of images out there... he will be featured on at least one upcoming cover though!

  7. @AirDave - Bagley on the Avengers part? Nice! Definitely a Grummett Firestorm from Power Company.

@Zoinks & @AirDave - Gerry Conway created Firestorm to be the opposite of Spider-Man. He wanted to create a "Marvel-like" character for the DC Universe.
    * Spider-man = Brainy kid becomes hero, ridiculed by Jock (Flash Thompson).
    * Firestorm = Jock becomes hero, ridiculed by Brainy kid (Cliff Carmichael).

Don't mean to plug, but seems relevant. You can find lots about Firestorm over on my FIRESTORM FAN(dot)com site. We've featured each of Ross' Firestorm covers from here, as well as multiple interviews with Gerry Conway.

Keep up the great work, Ross!!

  8. Ross - By the way, this cover is exceptional! The art meshes well and I love you've incorporated the Avengers movie subplot!

How about Firestorm and Nuke from Squadron Supreme? A little too on the nose?

  10. I just discovered this site last night and it's amazing! I've been going in reverse from the most recent...but had to comment here because I was a HUGE Firestorm fan as a kid. THIS version...Ronnie and Prof. Stein. Not the Elemental , not the new kid , not Ronnie and the new kid and not multiple Firestorms from different countries.. just this one. Love the confidence he brings in this cover...against the Avengers no less!
